Few details are still known surrounding the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Sunday.
On Monday, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office released body cam footage from the moment Ryan Welsey Routh was taken into custody.
NewsNation’s Brian Entin posted a video clip on X that started immediately before Routh surrendered to police. Routh can be seen toward the end of the video with his shirt over his head and his hands up:

On Sunday, while Trump was golfing at his club in Florida gunshots were heard and were later confirmed to be an exchange between Routh and the Secret Service.
The Hill reports:
Secret Service agents, posted at a hole nearby, spotted a man with a rifle push the firearm’s muzzle through the perimeter of the course, authorities told the media. The rifle was sticking through the bushes, between 300 and 500 yards away.
A Secret Service agent fired at the man, who dropped the AK-47-style rifle and fled in a car. Secret Service officials contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office around 1:30 p.m., prompting authorities to immediately seal off the area, county Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said.
Routh left two backpacks, his AK-47 rifle with a scope, and a GoPro camera at the fence.
It is unknown what Routh’s motive was when he opened fire.
