According to a senior White House official, Iran is reportedly preparing for an imminent ballistic missile launch against Israel. U.S. officials have evidence that the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces have moved long-range ballistic missiles to launch sites in the western part of the country, suggesting that a launch could occur within hours.
The U.S. Embassy in Israel has issued a high-level alert to its diplomatic staff and employees, instructing them to return to their homes and remain near bomb shelters.
The Hill reports:
“We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack,” the official said in a statement. “A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran.”
The news comes just hours after Israel announced it had begun raids into southern Lebanon to take out military capabilities of the Iranian-backed militia group Hezbollah.
Since launching their offensive last night, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have advanced several kilometers into Southern Lebanon from multiple points along the border. Soldiers from the elite 98th Paratroopers Division are spearheading the assault, with reports of intense fighting around dozens of towns.
The offensive marks the most significant ground operation in Lebanon since the 2006 Lebanon War, with Israeli forces aiming to neutralize Hezbollah positions following escalating rocket attacks by Hezbollah since the start of the Israel-Hamas War.
The news also comes in the wake of Israel’s weekend strikes, which eliminated Hezbollah’s leadership and targeted critical infrastructure in western Yemen used by Iranian-backed Houthi militants at a distance of 2,200 kilometers. Iran’s nuclear facilities are located just 1,600 kilometers from the Israeli border.
