In recent years, the Biden-Harris generated migrant crisis has put a massive strain on resources across the United States, drawing attention to an issue that extends well beyond the southern border. As the Biden-Harris administrates facilitates migrant flights with zero input from lifelong residents and dump thousands of unassimilated, culturally incompatible “asylum seekers” on small town without the infrastructure to accommodate them, residents feel a dramatic decline in their quality of life.
Logansport, Indiana was a sleepy town of approximately 18,000 residents before the Biden-Harris administration welcomed thousands of Haitian migrants without so much as a vote.
The New York Post reports:
It’s not entirely clear how many migrants have arrived in Logansport — but Cass County Health Department Administrator Serenity Alter told The Post that the surrounding area’s population has surged nearly 30%.
Local schools, healthcare facilities, and social services have been overwhelmed, struggling to accommodate the new arrivals. Teachers in Logansport report larger class sizes and limited resources as they struggle to meet the needs of both existing students and those from migrant families. The situation mirrors concerns voiced in other small towns, where residents are increasingly frustrated by the lack of attention to their own needs.
The impact has been especially felt among students and parents, with American students reporting classes being overwhelmed by migrants that don’t speak English, and a drastic decline in the quality of their education.
A frustrated 16-year-old honors student ultimately decided to drop out after her grades began to slip, opting instead to enroll in online classes.
Her mother said, “There were way too many kids and it seemed to her that since they didn’t speak the language, or didn’t understand what was going on, they were getting more attention.”
The sudden surge has also led to safety concerns, with many residents reporting their once close-knit and cohesive community feeling dangerous.
The high schooler’s mother said, “She was walking by herself and she was walking that way and two of them were going this way, she just kinda smiled at them as they walked by. They started yelling for her after they got past her. She turned around and she looked at them and they were like, ‘Come here! Come here!’ She’s like, ‘No, no, no, I’m good.’ She started walking fast. They chased her. She had to run all the way down to the coffee shop. She’s scared to go outside.”
This strain is not confined to Indiana. Across the Midwest, towns that have historically had stable populations are now grappling with challenges that come from a sudden surge in migration. Springfield, Ohio, is experiencing similar issues, with locals reporting increased demands on public services and housing. Residents are beginning to express concerns that taxpayer-funded resources are being diverted from essential services meant for them to accommodate newcomers.
The federal government’s handling of immigration has drawn sharp criticism from those who feel that the needs of American citizens are being overlooked and ignored. Many small-town residents argue that their communities are facing a crisis but partisan gamesmanship is blocking real and necessary solutions. This sentiment is growing, particularly in areas that have not historically been considered immigration hotspots.
The issue has galvanized community members who feel that their voices are being drowned out by national narratives on immigration policy. Local town hall meetings have become platforms for residents to express their concerns, demanding more attention from their representatives. “We want to support those in need, but it should not come at the expense of our own community,” said one local business owner. “We have families here who are struggling, and they deserve to be prioritized.”
The current situation raises important questions about the balance of resources and the responsibilities of local and federal governments. As taxpayer funds are funneled into programs to accommodate migrants, many residents are left wondering what support exists for their own families. Critics argue that the system needs to be reevaluated to ensure that American citizens are not left behind in the quest for compassionate immigration policies.
With the 2024 elections rapidly approaching, candidates on both sides will need to address the concerns of constituents who feel their needs are being overshadowed, but the residents forced to live side by side with these migrants seem to have their minds made up, with an overwhelming number of them promising to vote for President Trump in the hopes of restoring normalcy to their lives. Readers should note that after the economy, immigration has been listed as a top issue for this election cycle, and according to polling, more voters trust Trump on the issue than the sitting vice president.
