A new survey reveals a looming presidential campaign issue that nearly all voters agree on and believe is a crisis, but neither major party candidate will discuss.
The Peter G. Peterson Foundation released a report showing “swing state voters overwhelmingly believe that the rising national debt is a critical campaign issue,” the U.S. House Budget Committee reports.
“According to the report, more than 90 percent of voters across seven key states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – say that it’s important for presidential candidates to have a plan to rein-in the national debt,” the Committee reveals.
In response, Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) issued the following statement on the Peterson Foundation’s report:
“The numbers don’t lie – the American people are concerned about our country’s unsustainable fiscal path, and rightfully so.
Record deficit spending is devaluing the dollar, weakening our economy, and pushing us closer to a debt crisis. We must rein-in Washington’s out-of-control spending and restore fiscal sanity before it’s too late.
Instead of reducing the size of government and living within our means, we borrow from the future – placing a deferred tax on our children.
We must reverse the Biden-Harris spending spree, fix the broken health care and welfare system, and reignite economic growth by lowering taxes, cutting regulations, and incentivizing work.”
The poll was commissioned by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, which is “a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that is dedicated to increasing public awareness of the nature and urgency of key fiscal challenges threatening America’s future, and to accelerating action on them.”

i SUPPORT TRUMP AND HAVE HEARD HIM BRING UP SEVERAL IDEAS AND PLANS TO STOP THE DEMOCRATS SPENDING. THE UNCONTROLLED SPENDING BY THE DEMOCATS HAS TO BE CURED AND IF MEMORY SERVES TRUMP HAD TO FIX THE ECONOMY WHEN HE WAS IN OFFICE FOR HIS FIRST TERM.
Jodey Harrison is absolutely correct. This is one question that needs to be followed up with President Trump. My guess, he will answer it. However, I fear it may be too late with the debt the current administration has run up to finance their pet projects. Listening to the direction Trump is going, i.e. Getting rid of Education Dept. in the fed gumment and turning it back to the states, would definitely have a positive debt effect by removing all those gumment employees from the budget. Comments anyone?
Absolutely. Govt needs to be slashed, at all levels, and the nation’s wealth returned to taxpayers and employers. And maybe billionaire sports owners could build their own stadiums. Send the illegal immigrants packing. Make lifetime welfare recipients (and corporate welfare recipients) grow up. End foreign aid to non-democratic countries and QUIT the damn UN. Let them caucus in Terroran. That would be a start.
