A bartender in Washington, D.C., fended off a group of teenage assailants during an attempted carjacking over the weekend. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Saturday at a Sunoco gas station on 9th Street NW.
Randy White, who had just parked his Jeep Grand Cherokee, noticed three teenagers loitering nearby but initially paid them little attention. After making a purchase at the store, he returned to his vehicle, where the situation quickly escalated.
Surveillance footage shows the teenagers confronting White and demanding his possessions. Rather than complying, White fought back, delivering a punch to one of the assailants. Despite being placed in a chokehold and dragged to the ground during the struggle, he persisted in defending himself.
During the altercation, a rifle magazine fell from one of the attackers. At one point, White’s car keys fell out of his pocket, prompting two of the teens to seize the keys and jump into his vehicle, attempting to flee the scene.
White followed the teens into the Jeep before they could drive away, continuing to resist inside the vehicle. His efforts eventually forced the teenagers to abandon their plan and flee on foot with the vehicle’s key fob. White has since replaced the key fob.
Reflecting on the incident, White explained his decision to fight back: “I can’t give up my property like that. It’s not in me. I wasn’t raised that way.”
He also addressed the teens directly, urging them to “figure something else out to make money. Stop hurting people. It’s kind of ridiculous.”
Law enforcement is now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects. D.C. police encourage anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
