Trump is ready to go…
Former President Trump said that he has a list of potential nominees to serve as Defense Secretary if he wins November’s election.
On Thursday, Trump phoned into conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt’s show, where Hewitt rattled off a list of potential nominees, including Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Hewitt, who said he has voted for Trump, noted his son works for Waltz.
“I have many good choices. I have four or five good choices. You named a couple of them. And they’re very good. A lot of really very good choices,” Trump said.
Both Cotton and Waltz have each served in the Army.
Trump has also mentioned Christopher Miller as a potential person for the role, who served as acting Pentagon chief at the end of his first term, as a possible pick should he win in November.
“We had Miller at the end who did a very good job,” Trump said in a December 2023 interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt. “I thought he was really good. I thought he was very good.”
Defense secretary proved to be one of Trump’s more volatile Cabinet posts during his first term in office. Jim Mattis resigned after Trump said he was withdrawing troops from Syria, and his replacement, Mark Esper, was fired days after the 2020 election and has since been critical of Trump.

Trump’s only real failure during his first term was his personnel decisions. As an outsider he had to rely on insiders for recommendations. Many were bad(Sessions, Barr, Esper, Rosenstein, Wray, Kelly etc). He is not a complete outsider this time around and will need to appoint people loyal to him and to our constitution. Rooting out those bureaucrats with allegiance to foreign countries will be the primary determination of a successful Trump second term. Our government is infested with people who aren’t America First.
