Two messages, one campaign…
Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has adopted tailored (some would say deceptive) messaging strategies regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict to resonate with key voter demographics in crucial swing states. In Pennsylvania, advertisements from the Harris campaign emphasize her supposedly unwavering support for Israel, highlighting the need to eliminate threats posed by Hamas. Conversely, in Michigan, where there is a significant Arab-American population, her campaign’s messaging focuses on expressing solidarity with Palestinian civilians affected by the conflict, acknowledging their suffering and advocating for a humanitarian solution.
The sharply contrasting ads, first reported by CNN’s Erin Burnett, raise questions about whether Harris can maintain any semblance of consistency while appealing to different group. While the dual messaging strategy might woo undecided votes, it also risks criticism for contradictory messaging from her campaign.
NEW: Our report tonight on @OutFrontCNN — The Harris campaign is targeting Jews in PA and Arabs in Michigan with entirely different messages on Gaza. PA ads highlight her support for Israel's "ability to defend itself," while Michigan ads say "she will not be silent" on Gaza. pic.twitter.com/tLg8gJ0mLE

In Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump holds a slight advantage over Vice President Kamala Harris, leading by a narrow 0.4 percentage points. Meanwhile, in Michigan, Harris appears to have the narrow edge, polling 0.7 percentage points ahead of Trump.
