In addition to the kitchen table issues that helped build a multiracial coalition of Trump supporters, many migrants have fled Latin American countries torn apart by civil strife and socialist regimes.
Political and economic turmoil in countries like Venezuela have prompted mass migration. The Venezuelan crisis, marked by hyperinflation, shortages and political repression under socialist President Nicolás Maduro, has led to a significant exodus of Venezuelans seeking better living conditions in the United States.
Immigrants from nations like Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua often have direct or generational experiences with socialism and authoritarianism, leading many to support conservative values.
Cuban Americans, in particular, have a long history of voting Republican, especially in Florida, where Trump won by 13 points over Vice President Kamala Harris—the best showing by a Republican presidential candidate since George H.W. Bush in 1988.
