A teacher at a Los Angeles County high school reportedly stormed out of her classroom upon seeing a student wearing a “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) shirt. The teacher’s reaction, as outlined in an email she later sent to her students, raises significant questions about the professional conduct of educators and the responsibilities of their roles. Her email, which was obtained by the Daily Mail, expressed outrage over the student’s attire, describing it as a “hate crime” and accusing the MAGA movement of promoting “racist, misogynistic, antisemitic, and homophobic” views.
After storming out of the class, she sent a lengthy email to students, starting off, “Given the current political climate and ABC USD’s policy of neutrality NOT being neutral in the sense that students are allowed to express their political views by wearing their preferred political party attire and teachers are NOT allowed to express their political views by wearing their preferred political party attire, I am having a disagreement with administration regarding this double standard.”
She continued, “It is not a neutral stance when one group is allowed to express their political views (even if those views are racist, misogynistic, antisemite and homophobic) and the other side is silenced under threat of losing their job and/or being seriously reprimanded.”
She argues that if students are allowed to wear merchandise that promote Trump and/or the Republican Party, she should be allowed to do the same, while ignoring that significant power imbalance between educators and their students, and how a teacher taking a political stand could negatively impact the overall quality of education.
As educators, teachers hold significant authority over their students’ academic success and well-being. The classroom is not a space for teachers to impose their own personal political views on students; rather, it should be a space for students to explore, discuss, and form their own opinions. Teachers are expected to model professional conduct, maintain a neutral stance in political matters, and create an environment where students feel safe and encouraged to engage in open discussion, regardless of their personal beliefs.
Later in the email, she writes, “if there is any doubt that the MAGA party is all about the hatred of women, minorities, non-christian religions and LGBTQ+ just take a look at Project 2025 (link attached) to see how MAGA plans on dismantling the education system and social services systems. Via a man who has said he will be a dictator on day one and make it so that we NEVER have to vote again. By definition this is the making of a fascist.”
The teacher’s response indicates an inability to separate her personal political feelings from her duties as an educator. In doing so, she created a hostile environment where students’ political expressions are dismissed.
Towards the end of her email, she revealed that she would be taking several days off for her mental health and to reflect on what “political neutrality” should look like in the classroom.
While it is understandable that certain symbols or ideologies might be upsetting to some, the teacher’s response reveals a fundamental lack of professional boundaries and understanding of the dynamics of the classroom. For one, her public outburst, leaving the classroom and sending an email drenched in political bias, displays an absence of emotional control, particularly in a setting where she is responsible for educating and guiding students of varying political perspectives.
Education should prepare students to understand a wide range of viewpoints, not to have their beliefs censored or invalidated. Teachers have a duty to foster critical thinking, and that requires allowing students to form and express their own opinions. By storming out of the classroom and making sweeping statements about the political views of her students, the teacher not only undermined this duty but undercut her credibility within her field.
The school district, ABC Unified School District (ABCUSD), has confirmed it is investigating the incident. The district has a responsibility to ensure that educators are held accountable for their conduct, especially when it involves influencing or intimidating students based on their political views.

Shame when the students are the adults in the classroom and the “tolerant” leftist teacher behaves like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum.
Not that I know of.
Pretty narrow minded for a teacher–glad she is not teaching my chilfren!!
That thing called a teacher should be fired immediately. There is no excuse for that thing to be there in front of children when it acts like or worse than a two year old. Just downright disgraceful.
Poor old brainwashed b*tch! Probably forgot to take her Midol or Pamprin pills to help her along with her “mean ass attitude” that morning OR she is just suffering another day from her “Menopausal madness”………again!
why do they keep saying project 2025 is a Trump thing? It was written by Hillsdale college and I can’t find anywhere that says Trump either endorsed it or called it his MAGA belief.
She appears to be very short on the maturity level. Perhaps she should be schooled in proper behavior before trying to teach high school students.
That’s not a teacher. That’s political activist.
This teacher absolutely does not belong in the classroom.
California and their Democrat run indoctrination schools are a shame on America and it’s Education Dept.
Send 1K + students in MAGA shirts to school awesome
She should be fired. There is an awful amount of ignorance walking around.
A very unprofessional attitude, and actions by this “Teacher”. She is in a position of authority over these students, her personal beliefs are irrelevant in this instance. If she is so much opposed to students wearing Political attire,
she should take it up with administration. Instead, she had a temper tantrum, she could have set up a debate for the student to debate a pro Harris student Keeping her opinions to herself and have another more even-tempered teacher moderate. This is a perfect example of teacher indoctrination; the student is now terrified his grades will be affected by the teachers opinion.
In other words, there will always be a petulant brat in school, but nowadays it’s usually the teacher.
The teacher at ABCUSD that stormed out of her classroom should only be fired if she refuses to resign. The poor girl needs to get psychiatric help. I wish her well.
