Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, podcast host Joe Rogan revealed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s team attempted to get him on the show. Though Rogan is known for hosting a wide array of high profile guests, this left both his guests and listeners shocked.

During the episode, which featured comedians Shane Gillis, Mark Normand, and Ari Shaffir, Rogan and his guests discussed a variety of topics, including the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Rogan, who has been vocal about his concerns regarding the war, criticized U.S. involvement and expressed fears that the conflict could escalate into a broader global conflict. His remarks about Ukraine’s use of ballistic missiles and President Joe Biden’s shifting stance on the issue sparked strong reactions from many.

He expressed his frustration during the episode, accusing President Zelensky of making provocative statements that could lead to catastrophic consequences. Specifically, Rogan criticized Zelensky’s rhetoric about Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting that his statements could exacerbate tensions and push the world closer to World War III.

“Zelensky says Putin is terrified. F**k you, man. F**k you people. You people are about to start World War III,” Rogan said on the podcast, highlighting his concern that the conflict could spiral out of control.

Despite his outspoken criticism of the war and U.S. involvement, Rogan revealed that Zelensky’s team attempted to arrange an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience.

“They tried to get Zelensky on. I was like, what are you talking about?” Rogan said, leaving his guests puzzled. While Rogan didn’t go into further detail about the offer, his comment suggested he felt the same shock expressed by his guests. The podcast host has previously been careful about the guests he books, choosing to avoid some contentious topics, famously avoiding having Trump on for years before his change of heart just weeks before the election. The fact that Zelensky’s team reached out to Rogan, despite the host’s vocal criticism of the war and America’s involvement, raises questions about the Ukrainian president’s media strategy and his efforts to engage with influential figures in the West.

Rogan’s comments about Zelensky, as well as his past interviews with Trump, highlight the growing influence of podcasts in shaping political discourse. Rogan’s ability to attract high-profile guests—whether controversial or mainstream—demonstrates the power of alternative media as traditional media continues to wane in relevance, viewership and public trust.

Although Rogan was successful in hosting Trump, he tried and failed to arrange an interview with Kamala Harris, insisting that because he was adamant about holding the interview in his Texas studio and his standard three hour unedited layout, the Harris campaign ultimately refused. Harris was widely criticized for the decision not to appear on Rogan, as his listeners were primarily comprised of the demographics she needed support from.

Zelensky’s team may have noticed the impact that Joe Rogan had on the recent presidential election, and decided that getting an interview with him may sway the public’s opinion in their favor.

Joe Rogan is, in reality, an ignoramus. Added to that is that he has now a feeling of self-importance. This feeling of self-importance is enhanced by grandly refusing to host someone. One more episode like this and he enters the list of has-beens.
