I cannot be more excited about President Trump going back to the White House! I have every confidence that he will lower inflation, close the borders, cut taxes, reduce spending and make the U.S.A. a world leader once again. Things are looking good for 2025 on the federal level.
Unfortunately, I live behind enemy lines in the People’s Republic of Taxachusetts. The theme of 2025 is going to be spend and then tax!
Our governor, Maura Healey, is putting drunken sailors to shame with the way she is spending our tax dollars. Last month, Healey signed a $4 trillion climate change tech bill because she wants to be the biggest activist governor on the issue. The giveaway bill will stimulate nonprofits to hire more former state officials, who cannot find a real job and help wind turbine companies like Avangrid do additional damage to our coastline.
Of course, the amount the state is spending to house illegals continues to grow exponentially. With Healey refusing to cooperate with the incoming Trump administration on deportation, Massachusetts is now a magnet state on steroids. Where else would they go? Even New York City Mayor Eric Adams is open to sending them back.
While Governor Healey is now claiming to implement a six month crackdown on hotel stays, she is moving the illegals into the Home Base Program where landlords are guaranteed at least two years of rent and awarded signing bonuses starting at $4,000 per unit. This is a multi-billion dollar boondoggle.
Then there is the unexplained surge in Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (food stamps). According to records obtained by Senator-elect Kelly Dooner, the Commonwealth has added 700,000 people to the EBT roles over the past 14 months. That number cannot be accounted for by adding the illegals. It is too big. So, it appears the Healey administration is passing them out like candy which could be costing Massachusetts taxpayers as much as $350 million.
Like most states, the Commonwealth is required to have a balanced budget. Hence, there are two possibilities for state house abuse likely to happen. The governor will cut local aid to municipalities. That means every community will be shortchanged funding for schools, fire, police and roads. The municipalities will be forced come after us for higher property taxes or cut police and schools.
Like every good Democrat governor, Healey will also raise taxes. I predict that it will be a carbon tax so Healey can claim to be the first governor to curtail blah, blah, blah by taxing us for using cars, heating our homes and breathing. She will say the money is needed to improve public transportation so we can reduce our carbon footprint. No, it is just raiding of our wallets to pay for her mismanagement.
For Taxachusetts residents 2025 is going to be another year of paying for illegals, wasting money on the climate change theory and higher taxes.
But, then there is 2026 on the horizon and we can rid our state of Maura Healey.
