Texas GOP Congresswoman Kay Granger has reportedly been residing in a memory care and assisted living facility since July 2024, raising questions about her ability to serve her constituents in Tarrant and Parker Counties.
According to Congresswoman Granger’s roll call voting record, her last recorded vote was cast on July 24, 2024. On that date, she voted against an amendment to H.R. 8998, which sought to reduce the salary of Ya-Wei (Jake) Li, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pesticide Programs, to $1. Since then, Granger has not participated in any votes on Capitol Hill.
Efforts by The Dallas Express to contact her office have been met with silence. Calls to both her district and Washington, D.C., offices go straight to voicemail, where a recorded message from Granger herself plays:
“I am sorry we are unable to answer your phone right now. We are really glad you called us. Please leave your name, phone number and a brief message, and someone in our office will call you back as soon as possible.”
When a reporter visited her Washington, D.C., office in the Longworth House Office Building, they found the front door locked and covered with glass panels, showing no signs of recent activity inside:
When we asked employees at the WestBend building where Ms. Granger’s district office is located what happened to Ms. Granger’s office we were told that her team had packed up and closed the office before Thanksgiving. Her office appears to be closed for good (she is retiring at the end of the session) with phone calls going unanswered and voice mails not returned.
We then received a tip from a Granger constituent who shared that the Congresswoman has been residing at a local memory care and assisted living home for some time after having been found wandering lost and confused in her former Cultural District/West 7th neighborhood.
The Dallas Express team visited the facility to confirm whether Granger was residing there and to inquire about how she planned to vote on the spending bill. Upon arrival, two employees confirmed that Granger is indeed living at the facility. However, we were not permitted to conduct an interview regarding the current spending debate in the House of Representatives and how or if Ms. Granger planned to vote.
Taylor Manziel who is the Assistant Executive Director for the senior living facility acknowledged to The Dallas Express that “This is her home.”

Ultimately, Granger did not cast a vote this weekend on the funding bill aimed at averting a government shutdown.
The congresswoman has been a prominent figure in Texas and U.S. politics, representing the Lone Star State’s 12th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1997. As the first Republican woman from Texas elected to Congress, Granger played a critical role in shaping policy, particularly in the areas of national defense and fiscal appropriations.
She has served as the chairwoman of the influential House Appropriations Committee, a role that highlighted her authority over federal spending. Additionally, she chaired the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, where she played a crucial role in securing funding for significant military projects, especially those located in her Fort Worth-based district.
There has been no official confirmation regarding whether the congresswoman has been using a proxy to fulfill her duties or any updates on her current status.

First, do no harm.
Well, h ere we go; Another incapacitated ‘Lawmaker.” hidden away receiving MENTAL HEALTH treatment while collecting FULL PAY
Fienstien Ginsburg
Here’s the deal, many older people decide to go I to assisted living and nothing is mentally wrong w them
Many simply want to down size and have doctor and nurses nearby, don’t want to cook or do their own laundry or upkeep of a house
Look at 55+ communities that have medical centers on site etc.
Plus we now know that Joe Biden has been mentally incompetent for the last four years of his presidency.
Only in the American political system is this possible. An elected official unable to fulfil her responsibility being payed and we the taxpayers footing the bill.
What puzzles me is how all of this can fly under the radar. She doesn’t appear in Congress for 5 months and nothing happens?? Her district is unrepresented for all this time, and no one bothers to check why. Here’s another reason why we need term limits. People tend to overstay their welcome and their capabilities. They think they can hang in until they are carted out on a stretcher. Nobody wants to give it up. I at least think that something should be in place to require members of Congress to check in regularly and report such situations.,
Who has been covering for her? Interesting that she is still on the books as being an active member of Congress but now lives in a memory facility becasue she doesn’t even know that Congress is but we continue to pay her monthly salary, health care, and retirement packages plus other expenses. This is the problem with Congress, little accounability, coverups, career politians who do not know when to hang it up and either die in office or forget where its at.
