On Monday, prominent Trump critic and Washington Post reporter Jen Rubin announced her departure from the publication.
Rubin, formerly a self-identifying conservative, announced the decision on her new website, “The Contrarian.”
“Jeff Bezos and his fellow billionaires accommodate and enable the most acute threat to American democracy—Donald Trump—at a time when a vibrant free press is more essential than ever to our democracy’s survival and capacity to thrive,” she wrote.
“I therefore have resigned from The Post, effective today. In doing so, I join a throng of veteran journalists so distressed over The Post’s management they felt compelled to resign,” she continued.

“The Contrarian” co-founder Norman Eisen is another staunch Trump critic and close personal friend to former President Barack Obama, The Daily Caller noted. Others joining the outlet, according to Rubin, include prominent Trump critics George Conway, Laurence Tribe, Joyce Vance and Asha Rangappa.
A social media commentator pointed out the irony of starting an outlet named “The Contrarian” and then hiring a group of writers singularly united by their hatred for Trump. (RELATED: Ousted Journalist Attempting To Rally Wealthy Allies In Long Shot Bid To Buy The Washington Post)

Rubin’s departure is part of significant turnover for the Bezos-owned publication.
A number of columnists and board members resigned in October and November after WaPo’s editorial board refused to endorse Kamala Harris in the presidential election. (RELATED: Washington Post Declines To Endorse Trump – Or Harris)
Rubin referenced that decision in her announcement, writing, “The Post’s owner quashed a presidential endorsement for Trump’s opponent.”
The Post endorsed every Democratic candidate for president over the last 40 years, except Michael Dukakis.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos purchased The Washington Post for $250 million in 2013.
