Born March 28, 1975, in Plant City, Florida, Moody is a fifth-generation Floridian who has dedicated her career to public service and law enforcement. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting, as well as her Juris Doctor, from the University of Florida. Furthering her legal education, she obtained a Master of Laws in International Law from Stetson University College of Law.
Moody began her legal career as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida, prosecuting drug, firearm and fraud offenses. In 2006, she was elected as a judge for Florida’s Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Hillsborough County, serving until her resignation in 2017 to run for Attorney General.
In 2018, Moody was elected as Florida’s 38th attorney general and was reelected in 2022. During her tenure, she has been recognized for her leadership, serving as chair of Florida’s Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse and the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking.
Throughout her career, Moody has been a staunch advocate for conservative policies, challenging federal initiatives on immigration and health care and opposing the legalization of recreational marijuana. Her appointment to the Senate is expected to further bolster these positions at the federal level.
