Fox News host Greg Gutfeld made waves on Friday’s edition of The Five, offering a controversial commentary on the physical fitness of President-elect Donald Trump’s second-term cabinet nominees. Gutfeld, known for his candid and sometimes provocative remarks, praised Trump’s picks for top positions, suggesting that their physical fitness would translate into success in office.
The remarks came during a discussion about the questioning of Trump’s nominees by Senate Democrats, specifically Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), who made headlines for asking nominees questions about sexual harassment and misconduct.
He poked fun at Hirono’s line of questioning, particularly her repeated inquiries about whether nominees had ever made “unwanted requests for sexual favors” or committed sexual assault or harassment. Gutfeld, 59, responded sarcastically, suggesting that the senator was asking these questions out of personal curiosity, quipping that “she’s doing research because she’s never experienced an unwanted request for a sexual favor in her life.”
Gutfeld’s focus, however, quickly shifted to the physical appearances of Trump’s cabinet picks, claiming that their fitness indicated discipline and success in other areas of governance.
However, it was Gutfeld’s comments about the physical attributes of Trump’s nominees that drew the most attention. He praised figures like Republican South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, noting her political resilience and “great shape.” According to Gutfeld, Noem’s physical fitness and political capabilities are closely intertwined. He remarked that her ability to recover from a controversial incident involving a dog on her ranch was a testament to her political appeal, saying, “She’s so hot that shooting a dog isn’t a deal-breaker.”
When discussing Noem’s potential role as Secretary of Homeland Security, Gutfeld added, “You are going from a garden gnome to Kristi Noem,” before making a sweeping statement about the overall physical fitness of the nominees, suggesting, “They’re all in great shape. You’ve got to look at people who preserve and maintain what’s important in their lives. If they’re going to do that with their physical self, they’re going to do that in other areas.”
Gutfeld’s praise of Trump’s nominees was followed by a harsh critique of Biden’s administration. According to the The Five host, the contrast between the two administrations could not be clearer: “A lot of liberals are fat, out-of-shape losers because they don’t believe in structure and discipline.”
He argued that Trump’s cabinet, by contrast, would likely excel because their physical discipline would carry over into their work in government. “They maintain their bodies; they maintain their political careers,” Gutfeld continued. “If you have the discipline to maintain your body, you’re going to have the discipline to be successful in other areas, like running a country.”
This isn’t the first time Gutfeld has stirred controversy with his remarks. His brand of humor often blends satire with sharp political commentary, leading to both high praise and significant backlash. His comments about Trump’s cabinet nominees and Biden’s administration are a reflection of his broader style: irreverent, unapologetic, and often deliberately controversial.
