President Donald Trump took to social media on Sunday night, trolling pop sensation Taylor Swift after the singer faced boos from fans at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Both Trump and Swift were in the stadium, supporting the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of a crushing 22-40 loss to the Eagles.
“The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
While Swift’s appearance on the Jumbotron sparked a loud chorus of boos, Trump, who was briefly shown on the big screen during Jon Batiste’s performance of the national anthem, was met with raucous applause and cheers. The contrasting reception didn’t go unnoticed by the former president, who took advantage of the moment to have a little fun at Swift’s expense.
The singer did a subtle double-take, appearing to ask, “what is going on?” before smiling and waving to the crowd. Despite the chilly reception, Swift remained composed.
The president didn’t stick around to watch the entire game. He had previously predicted a Chiefs victory, but by halftime, as the Eagles led 24-0, Trump decided to cut his losses and leave early, taking to Truth Social to share his thoughts.
Trump reposted a comparison from the conservative account Libs of TikTok, showing clips of both Trump and his daughter Ivanka receiving cheers from the crowd, followed by Swift being booed. The post’s caption read, “Trump gets massive cheers at the Super Bowl while Taylor Swift gets booed. – The world is healing!”
Rumors had been circulating leading up to the Super Bowl that Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end and Swift’s boyfriend, might propose to the singer after the event. However, after the Chiefs stunning defeat, those rumors were quickly dashed, and no proposal materialized. Whether it was ever truly in the cards or simply wishful thinking fueled by her fans remains unclear.
Despite his playful jabs at Swift, Trump has previously expressed admiration for the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, particularly after Mahomes’ family became vocal supporters of the MAGA movement. Trump was seen snapping photos with Mahomes’ family members at the Superdome ahead of the kickoff.
This isn’t the first time Trump has taken to social media to criticize the singer. When Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris, Trump didn’t hold back, taking to Truth Social to express his disdain, writing, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Following Swift’s endorsement of the Democratic ticket, Vance offered a more intellectual rebuttal, arguing that while Swift was free to vote for whoever she pleased, fans would be wise to remember that as a wildly successful celebrity, she was by and large shielded from the day-to-day consequences of poor economic leadership, open borders and other pressing real world issues.
