This decision marks a shift from previous policy, which allowed transgender individuals to serve openly and access transition-related healthcare. The change follows broader efforts to realign military standards under policies initiated by the Trump administration.
Friday’s announcement comes as public support for transgender individuals serving in the military has declined in recent years. A Gallup poll tracking this issue found that approval dropped from 71% in 2019 to 58% in 2025, with the most significant decrease among Republicans. In 2019, 43% of Republicans supported transgender service members, compared to just 23% today.

The steady decrease has prompted worries among some in the transgender community, who blame it on what they call a deliberate campaign of misinformation and rhetoric from Republican lawmakers and President Donald Trump.
“I am concerned but not surprised,” said Alaina Kupec, president and founder of the transgender advocacy group Gender Research Advisory Council + Education, or GRACE. “The unrelenting attacks on the community by Republican lawmakers across the country have led to this erosion.”

Trump made gender identity issues a focus of his campaign, with transgender rights a favorite target of his TV ads and rallies despite the community representing barely 1% of the population, prompting fears that eliminating those rights would be among his initial priorities.
On his first day in office, Trump reaffirmed a policy recognizing only two genders—male and female.

As a vet I think men should serve. I think women should serve. I think confused individuals who don’t know what they are have no place in the military.

If you are not deployable you are not physically able to be in the Armed Forces, period!!
Good move. Now they need to get back to physical fitness standards that fit job physical requirements, eliminate the gay lesbian crowd and reinstate personal grooming and hygene standards that were in practice in the past. Having served in uniform for 38 years, including tours in Germany, Korea and Vietnam, all of this relates to discipline and discipline is crucial to reliability needed for a winning team.
I absolutely agree; The Military MUST be returned to the efficient machine the citizens could depend on if in imminent danger of attack from foreign powers; However now, it has become for the Military to protect the citizens at their OWN border which has been prostituted by the lame brained idiots know-nothings who would open and HAVE OPENEDD up the borders to the entire world of lunatics and criminals. who were thrown out by their own governments to be supported by the American taxpayers, along with supporting ALL the DEAD LOGS littering this government.

I can see where there in the past many women have been sexually assaulted in the military just like the sexual assaults in every prison across America when transgenders/transsexuals are placed in those entities. I, and many others stand with Pres. Trump in this decision, whereas, the protection and security of our women in the military or in prison should be a priority over allowing any “chromosome/DNA born gender males” to utilize, frequent or dress/undress” in ANY women’s dressing rooms and/or restrooms. Regardless of who and/or where any restrooms are in America NO BORN MALE GENDERED FREAK should ever be allowed to walk into a room where there are young girls and/or women! OBAMA’S SICK, TWISTED & DEMENTED IDEAS HAVE REALLY GONE TOO FAR IN THE TOILET and America now feels good that he is gone and hopefully into a 6-hole one day!
Several factors mitigate in favor of excluding transsexuals from military service. First, the underlying psychological makeup of those who have chosen to transition away from the gender with which they were born are a cause for concern. Many manner of psychological afflictions and/or disabilities may have lead to the transition, some of which may have a deleterious effect on such people reliably serving in the military. Second, would the fully transitioned individual have completed that transition before application to the military or would the military be expected to help the person complete that transition were they accepted into the service? If so, it is unreasonable for the military to make any and all concessions to the persons transitioning in order to qualify for service. Why should the taxpayers fund such transition and accommodation when the outcome may be even marginally questionable in terms of effective and timely service in the military. Third, the US military has been, traditionally, the most color-blind institution extant in American society and introducing individuals who may strain the limits of such accommodation would negatively effect unit cohesion and readiness as a practical matter. Are there any disabilities for which the US military would not accept an individuals for service? It seems that by accepting yet another individual with such disabilities strains the reasonable limits for what is or is not required for reliable service in the military. It seems that the military is being asked to not only accommodate all manner of people for service but to serve as a path for both social experimentation and normalizing what the psychological community considers profound aberration. Again, why should the taxpayers be asked to fund such enterprises when the sole mission of the military is to defend the country from aggressors?
