Tenants at a city-supervised affordable housing complex in the Bronx are blasting Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration after learning their rents will rise by more than 30% over the next four years despite the mayor’s campaign promises on affordability and rent freezes.

Residents of Tracey Towers, an 871-unit Mitchell-Lama development in Jerome Park serving middle- and moderate-income families, were told during a tense Wednesday meeting that their rents would increase beginning next year.

The announcement quickly triggered anger from tenants who said the hike directly contradicts the affordability message Mamdani used to.

Official Announcement Expected Soon

Entrepreneur and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has officially filed paperwork with the Ohio secretary of state’s office, taking the first formal step in a bid for governor. A public announcement confirming his candidacy is expected in the coming days.

Momentum Behind the Decision

Ramaswamy first floated the idea of a gubernatorial run last October after a poll showed him with a commanding lead in a hypothetical Republican primary. During an appearance on the PDB Podcast, he acknowledged the strong encouragement he had received from voters across Ohio.

“This is the number one thing that people across the state will come literally plead with me to do… And so, would I consider it? Yes, I would consider it.”

The New York Post reports:

The biotech entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate celebrated Valentine’s Day by filing paperwork with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office — signaling his run for the 2026 election.

Ramaswamy, 39 — a native of Cincinnati — has not yet formally announced his campaign plans but has repeatedly hinted that he was eyeing an elected office at the state level.

“Big announcement in Ohio coming on Feb 24. It won’t be your usual gubernatorial dog-and-pony show,” the potential Ohio candidate told The Post Saturday.

The Republican is expected to launch his campaign on Feb. 24 at Cincinnati’s CTL Aerospace Inc. before delivering remarks at Axium Packaging outside Columbus, the Associated Press revealed Friday.

His first official day on the campaign trail includes events in Toledo and Strongsville, a suburb of Cleveland.

What’s Next?

With the paperwork now filed, all eyes turn to Ramaswamy’s Feb. 24 announcement, where he will likely outline his vision for Ohio. His entry into the race will shake up the Republican primary, as he brings national name recognition and a reputation as an outsider challenging the political establishment.

Stay tuned for updates as the race for Ohio’s next governor begins to take shape.
