Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is considering an unprecedented move: removing New York City mayor—and fellow Democrat—Eric Adams from office as his administration crumbles under a wave of high-profile resignations and mounting political chaos.

The crisis deepened on Monday when First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer and Deputy Mayors Meera Joshi, Anne Williams-Isom and Chauncey Parker abruptly announced their departures, citing “extraordinary events.” Their exits have only fueled speculation that Adams’ grip on power is slipping fast.

DOJ Drops Corruption Case Against Adams, Sparks Political Firestorm

The controversy intensified after the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), under President Donald Trump, dropped a corruption case against Adams. The move has led to significant upheaval, including resignations from several federal prosecutors who opposed the decision. Democratic leaders have also ramped up calls for the mayor to step down.

Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove defended the DOJ’s decision in a memo, arguing that the prosecution had hindered Adams’ ability to govern, particularly in addressing illegal immigration and violent crime. Bove also argued that the charges disrupted Adams’ reelection campaign and were filed shortly after the mayor publicly criticized the Biden administration’s immigration policies.

Resignations Shake the DOJ and City Leadership

The DOJ’s move has sparked major fallout within the agency. Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor, Danielle Sassoon, along with at least five other federal prosecutors, resigned in protest. In her resignation letter, Sassoon suggested that political considerations played a role in the case’s dismissal, hinting at a possible quid pro quo tied to Adams’ stance on immigration.

The crisis has also destabilized City Hall. The abrupt resignations of four high-ranking deputy mayors on Monday have added to the chaos, raising concerns about the mayor’s ability to effectively lead the city moving forward.

Hochul Assembles Key Leaders to Assess Next Steps

In response, Governor Hochul has convened a meeting with the Big Apple’s top leaders, all prominent Democrats, including City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Comptroller Brad Lander and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, to discuss the city’s stability and future governance.

“I have asked key leaders to meet me at my Manhattan office for a conversation about the path forward, with the goal of ensuring stability for the City of New York,” Hochul stated. The meeting is scheduled for later Tuesday, with expectations of a high-stakes discussion on possible actions, including the mayor’s potential removal.

“Overturning the will of the voters is a serious step that should not be taken lightly,” the governor noted. “That said, the alleged conduct at City Hall that has been reported over the past two weeks is troubling and cannot be ignored.”

Discussions are expected to center on the legal options available under the New York City charter if Hochul decides to move forward with Adams’ removal.

The Wall Street Journal has more on the rapidly evolving situation:

The New York City charter allows the state governor to remove the mayor from office, though this step has never been taken before. Adams didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Hochul’s statement.

Adams’s administration has been rocked in recent days by the Justice Department’s order to prosecutors in the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office to drop their bribery case against the mayor. The mayor had been charged in September with taking illegal campaign contributions from Turkey and accepting $100,000 in travel and hotel perks in exchange for official acts. He has denied wrongdoing.

The Justice Department said Adams’s indictment had interfered with his ability to participate in Trump’s immigration enforcement. Several top prosecutors, including the acting Manhattan U.S. attorney, resigned over the decision to drop the charges. The Justice Department reserved its right to reinstate the charges later, raising concerns over Adams’s independence from the Trump administration.

Some New York City officials called on Adams to resign or be removed from office in the wake of the announcement.

Despite mounting calls for his resignation, Mayor Adams remains steadfast, denying any wrongdoing and vowing to stay in office.

Speaking defiantly on Monday, Adams dismissed the mounting pressure, declaring, “I am solely beholden to the 8.3 million New Yorkers I represent, and I will always put this city first—as I always have.”

If anyone should be REMOVED, it should be Governor Hochul.
Adams is being railroaded, just as they tried to do with President Trump with the Bogus politically motivated cases that the CORRUPT LEFT is so famous for.
As has been stated many times before, Adams was RIGHTFULLY concerned abut the ILLEGAL INVASION which was depleting his city’s coffers ,leaving the LEGAL citizens without protection.

Adams had made trips to the White House, alone, and accompanied by State officials from other states who were in the same situation, to speak to Biden about a solution to the overwhelming problem.

As said before, Adams’ case was dropped because it was a BOGUS, POLITICALLY MOTIVATED case just as ALL of Trump’s cases were, which is a specialty of the LEFTISTS and was the PET PROJECT of the SOILED SMELLY PANTS POS germinating at the White House for four years of CORRUPTION.

The only reason they are going after him is to SPITE Trump because that is WHO and WHAT the Democrats are. No matter the lapse of years, they are still the JIM CROW, LYNCHING PARTY of Congress, and they will NEVER change.

    Bill

It seems to me that he was put in office by the voters. How can a governor, who is not in good standing with voters, herself, be able to remove him? I think what the state needs to do is to establish the ability for voters to recall an official. This is a part of the constitutions of other states and the recall of an official should reside with the voter and not a governor.

Hochul was never Governor material She fell into it when worthless, lying Andy Cuomo left pissing all over himself, So until New York elects a GOP person for Governor, the state is going only to get worse The fact of the matter is Governor Hochul should be the one being on the hot seat I think Adams got caught in the middle of a Democrat scheme so that they could use him Adams held his ground and now Kathy has the fucking red ass She must show that she is doing something when like I said her ass needs to be on the line I certainly hope that the DOJ will get justice for the people of New York and the citizens of our country I do believe if they look hard enough they will find some shit on Hochul I don’t think I would even like her as a person because she is another Democrat that have many things hidden because of the long control over the state by the Democrats I don’t think the people would be too happy about some of those deals that have taken place that only a few know about Yes I think her ass is getting so tight she is starting to suck up her chair and some would say chair my ass
