One of America’s most liberal governors has signed multiple bills into law demanding greater subservience to the state.
With a few signatures, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has tightened red flag laws, raised the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles to 21 and imposed new social media regulations. (RELATED: Governor Orders Home Gun Confiscation Raids Without Due Process)
Hochul announced the sweeping changes in a press conference:

Other bills signed into law require gun manufacturers to allow for the microstamping of bullets to better trace weapons used in crimes. Another closes a loophole that allowed the category of “any other weapon,” which Hochul said are essentially guns that are deliberately designed to evade gun control laws.
Joining Hochul were legislative leaders, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Attorney General Tish James, who said she would vigorously fight any challenges to the measures.
Reiterating President Biden’s position, James said “The Second Amendment is not absolute.”
Hochul ordered the creation of a state police unit last month to combat online “hate speech” after a deranged racist shot up a grocery store in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Buffalo.
Hochul currently finds herself in a competitive primary race for governor of New York. She took office last August after then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) resigned amid a sexual harassment scandal. Before that, Hochul had served as the Empire State’s lieutenant governor.
On the Republican side, Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin is the frontrunner in his party’s gubernatorial primary. Despite the Democrats’ statewide dominance, the GOP is cautiously optimistic given the political headwinds facing Joe Biden’s party and corruption in Albany. (RELATED: New York Lt. Gov. Polls show Hochul is especially vulnerable on the issue of crime, as New York magazine notes:
More than three-quarters of New Yorkers say they personally worry about becoming a victim of violent crime, and they’re taking those fears out on the mayor and the governor, according to a survey of city residents released Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Governor Kathy Hochul stands at 35 percent approval in the city and 54 percent disapproval compared to 45 percent approval among state voters in March, according to a Siena poll. Today, 46 percent of respondents say the state is headed in the wrong direction under her watch, a potentially forbidding figure as she faces a test in the Democratic primary in three weeks against Representative Tom Suozzi, who’s been assailing her over crime from the right, and the city’s public advocate, Jumaane Williams, who has criticized her from the left.
