President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him a “dictator without elections” following Zelensky’s complaint about Ukraine’s absence from diplomatic talks between the United States and Russia earlier this week. Trump took to his Truth Social platform to offer a scathing rebuttal, mocking Zelensky’s background as a “modestly successful comedian” and suggesting that his leadership had dragged the United States into an unwinnable war.
In a lengthy post, Trump began by questioning Zelensky’s qualifications, describing him as “a modestly successful comedian” who had somehow persuaded the U.S. to commit a staggering $350 billion to a conflict that, according to Trump, “never had to start.” He went on to argue that without U.S. involvement, Zelensky would not be able to settle the war in Ukraine.
Trump continued his criticism by comparing the financial contributions made by the United States to those from Europe. He highlighted that the U.S. had spent $200 billion more than European countries on the war in Ukraine, with no guaranteed return. Trump questioned why President Joe Biden had not demanded Europe share more of the burden, noting that the war’s consequences were more critical to Europe than the U.S., which is separated by an ocean.
Trump then turned his attention to Zelensky’s domestic leadership, calling the Ukrainian president a “dictator without elections” and implying that his grip on power was weakening. Referring to reports of low approval ratings in Ukraine, Trump said Zelensky was struggling with political legitimacy. He also accused Zelensky of manipulating President Biden for his own gain.
“Zelensky refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle,’” Trump wrote. “A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left.”
Trump then contrasted his own actions with those of the Biden administration, asserting that his administration had successfully positioned itself as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict. He said that while Biden had “never tried” to broker peace, his team had actively worked on negotiations with both Europe and Saudi Arabia. Trump also implied that Zelensky was more focused on prolonging the war for financial gain, suggesting that the Ukrainian president wanted to keep the “gravy train” of U.S. financial support flowing.
Trump’s remarks came in the wake of a diplomatic meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Ukraine was notably excluded from the discussions, a decision that prompted criticism from Zelensky. The Ukrainian president, who was in Turkey at the time, expressed frustration that Ukraine had not been invited to the talks.
“Decisions on how to end the war in Ukraine cannot be made without Ukraine, nor can any conditions be imposed,” Zelensky said. “We were not invited to this Russian-American meeting in Saudi Arabia. It was a surprise for us, I think for many others as well.”

DO NOT sacrifice any Ukraine territory held by the unlawful invader. That is like saying ” Canada can invade Washington and Oregon if they want and we have to give that to them”
I neither like nor trust Zelensky but we should remember Russia invaded Ukraine.
