Authorities say the home invasion occurred around 4:24 a.m. when two men forcibly entered the residence in Manchester, KY, with the intent to break into a gun safe. The juvenile resident, home alone at the time, discovered the intruders and saw them holding firearms.
Reacting swiftly, the teen retrieved a handgun, fired at both men and then escaped through a bedroom window to safety.
The intruders, later identified as 44-year-old Roger D. Smith of McKee and 51-year-old Jeffrey M. Allen of Manchester, were both struck by gunfire. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene (DRT), while Smith was transported to Advent Health Manchester, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Clay County Coroner confirmed their deaths, and autopsies were scheduled for Monday.
Local authorities praised the teen’s quick thinking in the face of imminent danger. “This appears to be a clear case of self-defense,” a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation stated.
KSP Detective Logan Gay is leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from the Manchester Police Department and the Clay County Coroner’s Office.
This incident underscores the importance of the right to self-defense no matter what your age is, especially in situations where lives are at stake. The juvenile is not facing any charges at this time.
As more details emerge, the investigation will determine whether any additional legal actions are necessary. For now, the teen’s actions serve as a stone-cold reminder of why responsible firearm ownership and the right to protect one’s home remain vital in America.

Give him an award. I bet they have long criminal records and are possibly felons.
Indeed, give this boy an award for courage and standing up for himself. No doubt, these two scumbags have criminal records, and deserved their fate.
Education is important. FAFO.
I feel sympathy for the fourteen-year-old boy who was put in this position. As far as the intruders are concerned, GOOD RIDDANCE, and no sympathy.
Just imagine if this same exact situation had happened in one of the states in the NE part of the country or on the West Coast? That brave young man would be in jail needing a Presidential pardon.
Victory
He acted as most of us would. I would suggest counseling the young man so he doesn’t always wonder if he he did right and carry a burden the rest of his life.
