An alleged domestic dispute involving Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) has taken a new turn after Edward R. Martin, Jr., a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney, declined to sign an arrest warrant issued by D.C. police. The case has been sent back for further investigation, and it remains uncertain whether charges will ever be filed.
The allegations stem from an incident involving Sarah Raviani, a political activist and co-founder of Iranians for Trump, a grassroots organization supporting President Donald Trump’s policies on Iran. Raviani, a Gen Z Iranian-American who once leaned Democratic, became a vocal Trump supporter, advocating for stronger U.S. policies against the Iranian regime.
According to an initial police report, Raviani claimed that Mills, with whom she has been in a relationship for over a year, physically pushed and shoved her. Officers noted she had fresh bruises on her arm. Additionally, she reportedly played a recorded phone conversation in which Mills allegedly instructed her to lie about the cause of her injuries.
Per NBC4 Washington:
D.C. police told the I-Team they sent an arrest warrant to the U.S. attorney’s office on Friday. The warrant has not been signed. Police said the case was sent back to them for further investigation. The U.S. attorney’s office said it does not comment on uncharged cases.
Sources familiar with how cases are handled say this type of back-and-forth is not uncommon and may never result in charges.
Mills’ office did not respond to an inquiry from News4 on Monday.
Mills is a two-term congressman. Online bios have said he is married and has two children.
The congressman, who represents a district northeast of Orlando, had expressed interest in running for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Raviani’s organization, Iranians for Trump, launched in September 2024, positioning itself as a counterweight to what it saw as the Biden administration’s weak stance on Iran. Under Trump, the U.S. looks to take a more aggressive approach, following up on the president’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and implement strict sanctions.
What Happens Next?
For now, the case remains in limbo, with D.C. police conducting further investigation. Mills has not publicly commented on the details, while Raviani has yet to make an official statement beyond what was included in the initial police report.
