Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Space Force will play a “central role” in the Pentagon’s efforts to develop a homeland missile defense shield, according to the service’s top officer.

Trump’s order calling on the Pentagon to develop an “Iron Dome for America” – an advanced version of Israel’s Iron Dome, to counter a range of missile threats, including hypersonic weapons highlights several space-based elements.

They will build on existing capabilities like the Missile Defense Agency’s Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor program and the Space Development Agency’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, which includes a constellation of missile warning and tracking satellites.

Given the executive order’s emphasis on space systems, it’s natural the space service created under Trump’s first term would play a key role in its development.

MEANWHILE – The Space Development Agency (SDA) is pressing ahead with satellite procurements despite internal turbulence, as the agency’s missile-tracking program remains central to Trump’s missile defense plans.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Defense Secretary Hegseth said Monday that he was replacing the top lawyers for the military services because he didn’t think they were “well-suited” to provide recommendations when lawful orders are given.

Put this aerial nuke weapon on the chopping block. The Pentagon must cut $50B of waste from “low-impact and low-priority programs” to ones that align with Trump’s defense strategy. This is an excellent first step to get the department ready for the threats America faces from China and other adversaries.

The Pentagon should follow suit. After less than two years at war, Ukraine ditched a clunky, centrally planned acquisition system and replaced it with a weapon delivery pipeline driven by real-time operational feedback, commercial partnerships and direct engagement with frontline operators.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Dan Bongino, the ex-Secret Service agent and conservative podcaster named deputy director of the FBI, has spent the past seven years publicly criticizing the agency he will now help run, saying the FBI leadership is corrupt and agents were out to get Trump.

A federal judge blocked Trump immigration enforcement actions at certain places of worship for Quakers, Cooperative Baptists and Sikhs, after lawsuit challenging Trump’s unwinding of a Biden-era memo that barred immigration arrests at certain protected locations.

This year began with an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack in New Orleans that wiped away any illusion that the threat of terrorism has passed and that groups like the Islamic State had been deprived of their capacity to inspire attacks in the U.S.

POLITICS

Federal workers sue Elon Musk’s over threat to fire them if they don’t explain their accomplishments. Attorneys for the workers said Musk violated the law with his demand.

The Air Force hasn’t fired anyone yet. The Secretary of Defense aims to reduce DOD’s civilian workforce by 5 to 8 percent, but it’s not clear how many of those will be Department of the Air Force employees.

VA staff told to reply to Musk’s ‘What did you do last week’ email despite moves from other government agencies to pause any engagement with the directive.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Collins vowed to improve the department’s benefits delivery and expand medical care while bringing reforms to the workforce to refocus its work on people, rather than bureaucracy.

Conservative podcaster Graham Allen started a new job at the Pentagon on Monday, as the Defense Department’s digital media director.

US POWER OVERSEAS

A US B-52H Stratofortress bomber today flew over the Estonian capital, Tallinn, on a sortie that brought it within roughly 50 miles of the Russian and Belarus borders.

IRAN THREAT/ISRAEL WARS

Israel expels residents of three West Bank refugee camps.

US imposes more sanctions on Iranian oil trade after Trump calls to drive exports ‘to zero.’ The sanctions on dozens of people and oil tankers across China, the UAE, India and others were for allegedly helping to finance Iran and its support for terror groups that attack the US and its allies.

Syria’s new interim president pledged on Tuesday to ensure the state has a monopoly on weapons at a conference on the country’s future after Bashar al-Assad’s overthrow.

A Russian Su-57 Felon fighter recently touched down in Iran on its way back home from the Aero India 2025 international airshow, the first known instance of one of the new-generation Russian jets stopping in Iran.

CHINA THREAT

Taiwan appears to be moving toward adding a supersonic anti-ship cruise missile to its F-CK-1C/D Indigenous Defense Fighters. When fully integrated, the air-launched version of the homegrown HF-3 missile will provide it with a powerful new capability to counter China’s growing naval might.

Chinese fishing fleets are allegedly using North Korean forced labor, a potential breach of international sanctions, with workers allegedly kept at sea for up to a decade.

Philippine authorities detained two Chinese nationals for spying, the latest in a series of arrests involving alleged espionage as naval confrontations between the countries increase.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Trump expresses Russia-Ukraine war nearing end as he meets with Macron.

China’s Xi affirms ‘no limits’ partnership with Putin in call on Ukraine war anniversary.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

As France’s defense minister has called for Europe to “accelerate our rearmament,” Paris is speeding along with new plans to acquire up to 30 additional Rafale fighter jets, three more frigates, and more drone and electronic warfare (EW) platforms.

India weighs US, Russian stealth fighter bids. The cream of the U.S. and Russian air forces shared a runway at the recent Aero India 2025 exhibition, as both the U.S. F-35A and Russian Su-57E attempted to woo the Indian Air Force towards an unlikely deal.

If Africa waits for the US under Trump to set the agenda, it will be left behind.

A fresh search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has been launched more than a decade after the plane went missing in one of aviation’s greatest enduring mysteries.

US MILITARY

Raytheon unveiled a small plug-and-play AI upgrade that could make a big difference in the survival of US air crews in non-stealth aircraft. By deploying a device powerful enough to be militarily useful, yet small enough to be retrofitted on a fighter, the new Cognitive Algorithm Deployment System (CADS) is a major step towards long-sought “cognitive electronic warfare.”

Justice Thomas slams Feres doctrine as ‘indefensible’ after Supreme Court decides not to hear military case that challenged the 1950s judicial ruling that prevents active-duty service members from suing the government for wrongful injury or death. The suit was submitted by a veteran who was paralyzed during surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
