A disturbing and highly inflammatory video was recently shared on TikTok, where the user called on people to “shoot at ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents on sight.” The video, posted by a user with the handle @belal_donq, has drawn widespread concern and condemnation.
In the video, the TikTok user explicitly encourages viewers to take lethal action against ICE agents, claiming that their presence in unmarked vehicles, wearing masks, and without visible badges makes them “untrustworthy” and potentially dangerous. “Shoot at ICE agents on sight. That’s right. If ICE agents are trying to take you or a loved one, shoot them on sight,” the user says. He further claimed that these agents could be anyone, including gang members, due to the manner in which they show up in the field.
The user goes on to liken the actions of the agents with those of “the Mafia.” He questions the morality of their work, claiming, “What is our country coming to? Why would you want to be an ICE agent anyway? Do you like separating kids from their parents?” and goes on to express outrage at the deportation of people he describes as innocent, despite having broken federal law.
The TikTok video has since been taken down by the user, but not before getting the attention of public officials and law enforcement. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem swiftly condemned the video, vowing that the individual behind the post would face prosecution. “If you threaten or attempt to harm a law enforcement officer, we will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” she wrote in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) also expressed their alarm, with Vice President Hector Garza calling the video’s message “dangerous” and saying it could incite real-world violence. He emphasized that federal law enforcement officers, including those in ICE, risk their lives daily to protect the nation. “This kind of rhetoric undermines the rule of law,” Garza stated, adding that he urges social media platforms to take action against content promoting violence.
Garza called for social media companies to be more proactive in removing content that crosses the line from free speech into inciting violence, stating, “Free speech does not extend to inciting criminal acts, and allowing such content to remain online puts lives at risk.”
This troubling incident comes just days after TikTok took action against content linked to Mexican cartels, removing the hashtag “#CartelTok” after cartel members used it to recruit human smugglers and show off illicit wealth.
While TikTok and other platforms have policies in place to address violent content, they are often criticized for not acting swiftly enough.
Law enforcement agencies, such as ICE, already face significant challenges in their work, and the risks of online incitement only add to the dangers they face daily. The importance of maintaining the rule of law and protecting individuals who serve in these critical roles cannot be overstated.
