Good morning.

Congress is mounting its strongest challenge yet to President Trump’s Iran War, federal prosecutors have unveiled a sanctions-evasion case tied to Iran’s nuclear program, and investigators in Washington, D.C., are digging deeper into allegations that police officials manipulated crime statistics.

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve a war powers resolution to limit unauthorized American military involvement in Iran.

Sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, the measure would require the White House.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – A world is coming in which humanoid robots don’t just run alongside humans but also fight alongside them in war. The next decade may determine which nation those machines serve.

China’s military aims to harness the coming ‘ChatGPT for robotics’ that could usher humanoid robots onto the battlefield.

More than 12,000 human runners raced 21 robots in the Beijing E-Town Half Marathon. Humans won this round, with the top human taking first place with a time of 1:02:36.

Yet the fastest humanoid robot, the ‘Tiangong Ultra’ finished the 13.1-mile run at a respectable 2:40 clip, pointing to a future where robots may match, and even beat humans.

That same future may lie not too far away in warfare as well, if the recent efforts of the Chinese defense industrial complex prove successful.

Recognizing this potential, China is aggressively pursuing humanoid robotics.

People’s Liberation Army (PLA) strategists see three primary advantages to deploying such humanoid robots on the battlefield: versatility (as they are more similar to humans), scalability (employing in large amounts – drone swarms), and survivability (robotic cannon fodder).

Still, Chinese authors note that humanoid robotics will need to gain the robotic equivalent of common sense, if they are to “act independently without human intervention, and complete combat tasks just like humans.”

But if the U.S. hopes to keep up with this accelerating pace of humanoid robots, it must speed up its own research and development – FAST.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is launching three more outposts across the US to help DOD connect with a broader swath of technology companies.

The Pentagon can’t be run like a business. Everyone seems to agree that things need to be done differently. And no wonder: accelerating technological change is reshaping conflict around the world.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Trump administration conceded on Thursday that ICE agents did not have a warrant when they detained pro-Hamas activist Mahmoud Khalil, acknowledging it was a “warrantless arrest.”

48 hours with marines and soldiers on the US southern border.

DOD will deploy nearly 200 intelligence and signals troops to the border, adding to the more than 10,000 troops already there.

PENTAGON WOKE WATCH

President Trump asks Supreme Court to let transgender military ban take effect while legal challenges proceed.

NO DEI – US public schools, including those operated by DOD on bases stateside and abroad, are being told to rework discipline policies that it says are based on racial considerations rather than behavior.

POLITICS

Defense Secretary Hegseth had an internet connection that bypassed the Pentagon’s security protocols set up in his office to use the Signal messaging app on a personal computer.

California’s economy has overtaken that of the country of Japan, making the US state the fourth largest global economic force.

US POWER OVERSEAS

Modernizing military decision-making: Transforming US European Command.

Highly active in Africa and focused on funding infrastructure, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a US development agency, has just been shut down by Trump.

CHINA THREAT

Report warns US risks strategic drift in space as China gains ground. It paints a concerning picture of the nation’s position in an escalating competition with China.

US Guided-missile destroyer makes Navy’s second solo trip of year through Taiwan Strait.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Trump said Thursday that Russia would be making a concession toward peace if it agrees not to take over Ukraine.

Trump lashed out at Ukraine’s president, saying Volodymyr Zelenskyy is prolonging the “killing field” after pushing back on ceding Crimea to Russia as part of a potential peace plan.

Crimea is a focus of discussions to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. Here’s why it’s so coveted. Russia’s illegal seizure of Crimea from Ukraine 11 years ago was quick and bloodless. But Kyiv — and most of the world — never recognized Moscow’s annexation of the strategic peninsula.

Boris Johnson has issued stern criticism of Trump’s Ukraine peace proposals in one of his first apparent censures of the US president, saying under his terms the Ukrainians would “get nothing.”

The mayor of Kyiv said that Ukraine may have to give up land as part of a peace deal with Russia.

IRAN THREAT/MIDEAST

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Iran must give up all nuclear enrichment if it wants to make a deal during talks to head off the threat of armed conflict.

Iran-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen have shot down 7 US Reaper drones in less than six weeks, worth more than $200 million in what is becoming the most dramatic cost to the military in its air campaign.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

North Korea lashes out at Air Force’s ‘Swan of Death’ long-range bomber deployment in Japan as a “threat to regional security.”

Air Force will ramp up its presence near North Korea by sending more than two dozen additional F-16 fighters to Osan Air Base, South Korea, creating a second “super squadron” there.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

With the world already on edge about the Middle East, Europe, and the Pacific, a potential new conflict is brewing between the nuclear-armed nations of India and Pakistan after a deadly terror attack.

US to offer Saudi Arabia $100bn weapons deal as Trump visit planned.

The Netherlands plans to buy a torpedo-killing torpedo as early as 2029, replace the standard assault rifle starting this decade and equip its heavy infantry brigade with tracked armored vehicles, as part of 17 equipment projects for the coming years.

Al-Shabab terrorists have battled Somali troops and allied forces for control of a strategic army base in southern Somalia.

US MILITARY

More than two-thirds of Guard and Reserve troops are overweight, potentially limiting their readiness and ability to deploy.

Army dubbed its new hypersonic missile the “Dark Eagle” as the developing system nears the end of testing.

The oft-maligned Littoral Combat Ship, or LCS, may have found its true calling: chasing down smugglers.

Air Force sees options for ‘cheaper,’ less ‘exquisite’ CCA drone wingmen that may come in on the “low end” in price and capability.

The Air Force firmly believes its new F-47 6th generation stealth fighters are key to “how we win” in future fights. Though it has said it would buy 200 of the next-gen combat jets, that number is now an open question as its vision of the air superiority mission set continues to evolve.
