PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – A world is coming in which humanoid robots don’t just run alongside humans but also fight alongside them in war. The next decade may determine which nation those machines serve.
China’s military aims to harness the coming ‘ChatGPT for robotics’ that could usher humanoid robots onto the battlefield.
More than 12,000 human runners raced 21 robots in the Beijing E-Town Half Marathon. Humans won this round, with the top human taking first place with a time of 1:02:36.
Yet the fastest humanoid robot, the ‘Tiangong Ultra’ finished the 13.1-mile run at a respectable 2:40 clip, pointing to a future where robots may match, and even beat humans.

That same future may lie not too far away in warfare as well, if the recent efforts of the Chinese defense industrial complex prove successful.
Recognizing this potential, China is aggressively pursuing humanoid robotics.
People’s Liberation Army (PLA) strategists see three primary advantages to deploying such humanoid robots on the battlefield: versatility (as they are more similar to humans), scalability (employing in large amounts – drone swarms), and survivability (robotic cannon fodder).
Still, Chinese authors note that humanoid robotics will need to gain the robotic equivalent of common sense, if they are to “act independently without human intervention, and complete combat tasks just like humans.”
But if the U.S. hopes to keep up with this accelerating pace of humanoid robots, it must speed up its own research and development – FAST.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR
Crimea is a focus of discussions to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. Here’s why it’s so coveted. Russia’s illegal seizure of Crimea from Ukraine 11 years ago was quick and bloodless. But Kyiv — and most of the world — never recognized Moscow’s annexation of the strategic peninsula.

US MILITARY
The Air Force firmly believes its new F-47 6th generation stealth fighters are key to “how we win” in future fights. Though it has said it would buy 200 of the next-gen combat jets, that number is now an open question as its vision of the air superiority mission set continues to evolve.
