Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

Mary Lou Retton, the Olympic gymnast who once captured the heart of a nation and became a symbol of American excellence, was arrested earlier this month in West Virginia on charges related to driving under the influence.

According to Marion County court records, Retton was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or drugs on May 17. She was released from jail after posting a $1,500 personal recognizance bond. Retton reportedly smelled of alcohol, failed a sobriety test, and had a bottle of wine in the passenger seat.

Retton, 57, remains one of the most recognizable names in American sports history. Known to millions as “America’s Sweetheart,” she catapulted into national fame at just 16 years old during the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where she became the first American woman to win the Olympic all-around gold medal in gymnastics. Her flawless performances — perfect 10s in both the vault and floor exercise — cemented her as a symbol of national pride and determination during a time when American patriotism was surging under President Ronald Reagan.

She went on to win five medals in total: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.

In 2023, Retton made headlines for a far more personal battle. Her family revealed that she was fighting for her life in the ICU, suffering from a “rare form of pneumonia.” The severity of her condition shocked many across the country, with friends and supporters rallying behind her in prayer and support. At one point, doctors reportedly considered placing her on life support.

In a deeply emotional interview on NBC’s Today in early 2024, Retton recounted her experience:

“This is serious, and this is life, and I’m so grateful to be here. I am blessed to be here because there was a time when they were about to put me on life support.”

After she retired from gymnastics, Retton became a motivational speaker and frequently shared messages about the benefits of proper nutrition and exercise.

Retton also served under President George W. Bush as a member of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, continuing her commitment to inspiring the next generation of Americans to live active, purpose-driven lives.

None of us are perfect and when put on a pedistal even the slightest bobble becomes world news. Not an excuse, but an observation.

    Deplorable Mark

Thanks for the photos of two real American Heroes. Ronald Reagan and Bob Hope. I wish some of our modern celebutards could live up to patriots like them.
