What $14.6 Billion In Health Care Fraud Reveals About Our Blind Spot On Election Theft

The Department of Justice, under the renewed scrutiny and sharp leadership of the Trump administration, just announced the largest healthcare fraud takedown in US history: $14.6 billion, 324 people charged, nearly 100 of them doctors and nurses. The scale is staggering. But the real story, the one already being memory-holed by legacy media, is who helped crack the case.

The answer? Elon Musk and the team at DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, the much maligned but highly effective unit born of President Trump’s second term, wielding artificial intelligence not as a political parlor trick but as a scalpel against corruption.

DOGE, under Musk’s stewardship 130 days, has continued his efforts in earnest after his return to his business endeavors.

What they uncovered in less than five months should be a national scandal: a transnational web of criminals who stole the identities of over one million Americans, then filed $10.6 billion in fraudulent Medicare claims. These were not petty thieves. This was an international cartel, trafficking in opioids, exploiting Native American and homeless populations, and targeting the elderly and dying through fake hospice providers. It was a coordinated heist on the American taxpayer, equal parts monstrous and invisible.

And without DOGE, it may have remained so.

Before Musk, there was no institutional appetite to find these crimes, let alone prosecute them. The Biden-era DOJ managed to uncover only $2.75 billion in fraudulent claims the year prior. Even that figure was presented with tepid fanfare, like a bureaucrat noting a paperclip shortage. But $14.6 billion? That is not the result of a better-funded agency. It is the result of better vision. DOGE saw what others refused to look for.

Artificial intelligence was not just helpful, it was decisive. The fraud detection system DOGE deployed cross-referenced Medicaid disbursements, opioid prescriptions, patient death records, and digital fingerprints from billing software. In one case, it flagged a UAE-based billing company siphoning $650 million through Arizona addiction clinics aimed at vulnerable populations. In another, hospice nurses in Indiana were caught stealing morphine from the very patients they claimed to comfort.

These are not bugs in the system. They are features of a government culture that does not want to know.

It would be naive to think such massive theft went entirely unnoticed. Someone saw it. Someone always sees. But under prior administrations, the political will to pursue these cases simply did not exist. Musk’s DOGE disrupted that inertia. Their success embarrassed the permanent bureaucracy, not just because DOGE was effective, but because it was outside the machine.

Now comes the real question. If DOGE’s AI tools could detect and dismantle a criminal network defrauding the government of $14.6 billion, why not turn them loose on something even more consequential: voter fraud?

It would be hard to argue that the integrity of our electoral system is less important than Medicaid billing. And yet, when it comes to elections, the same institutions that ignored Medicaid fraud now assert, with oracular certainty, that there is nothing to see. No widespread fraud. No irregularities. No interest in looking.

But the mechanics of fraud are the same: identity theft, digital records, geographic inconsistencies, suspicious patterns. If a UAE billing company can steal the medical records of over one million Americans, how hard would it be to register seven million fake votes using only the last four digits of a Social Security number, as is permissible in many Democrat-controlled states?

Consider this: 6,285,500 of the voters who cast ballots in the 2020 election have not voted since. That is an astonishing figure. Not moved, not died, just disappeared. If foreign actors could gain access to full medical dossiers, including Social Security numbers, addresses, and dates of birth, what barrier remained to voter registration?

Yet rather than examine this question, blue-state legislatures have chosen a different path. They have banned ID requirements. They have banned citizenship verification. They have left their voter rolls 10X as vulnerable as the Medicaid databases DOGE just exposed. To even raise the issue is to be labeled a heretic by the same people who insisted the laptop was fake, that lab leaks were conspiracy theories, that inflation was transitory.

The AI tools already exist. DOGE proved they work. They can trace anomalous voting patterns. They can detect phantom registrations. They can flag the same kinds of inconsistencies that led to the indictment of 324 criminals. What is missing is not the technology. It is the courage.

And let us not pretend this is merely about dollars and cents. The $245 million seized in assets, cash, crypto, luxury cars, was only a fraction of the loot. The real damage was moral. The theft of our institutions by people who believe the system will never hold them accountable. That is the same rot that festers in our elections. The fraud we allow is worse than the fraud we miss.

As President Trump’s DOJ rightly focuses on rooting out financial corruption, it should expand its mandate. Musk’s time as a Special Government Employee may have expired, but his tools remain. DOGE should be expanded, institutionalized, and turned toward the ballot box. Not to sway an election, but to save one.

If it took DOGE to uncover the largest fraud in US history, it will take DOGE to preserve the last hope of honest government. We cannot reform Medicaid and leave our elections untouched. The same predators are watching.
