But it may be a good thing. The establishment media keeps sprinkling fairy dust to make Zohran Mamdani, the Ugandan-born son of Muslim Indian parents, and self-declared socialist running as a Democrat for mayor of New York City, appear to be anything but a radical communist.
Instead, they call him a democratic-socialist, or progressive. Some even admit he is far-left, but few call him what he really is.
As National Review senior editor Charles C. W. Cooke notes about Mamdani:
Let’s not dance around it… and if you go back through his Twitter feed, at various points, he says this. He praises communists, and he says that what New York City needs is this communist that he links to and shows a picture of. He’s a communist! I’m not red-baiting.
The Washington Times adds:
…the 33-year-old failed rapper and trust fund child who just won the Democratic primary… coasted to victory in Tuesday’s [Democrat] primary by promising government-run community grocery stores and mandating that all landlords and property owners freeze rent. He also offered an endless menu of government goodies, such as free child care and free public transportation. In other words, Zohran Mamdani is an unapologetic communist.
Based on his campaign website, reports The Daily Wire, Mamdani would also dump millions of dollars of city funding into “transgender” procedures and treatments, including for kids — and challenge the Trump team’s efforts to restrict such procedures for minors.
Thankfully, President Trump is very clear eyed about New York City Democrats who nominated him as their candidate for mayor, saying on Truth Social that they’d finally “crossed the line.”
It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous.
Mamdani has also pledged to stop masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents “from deporting our neighbors.”
When Trump was asked about this at a news conference during a visit to the new Alligator Alcatraz illegal alien detention center in the Florida Everglades, he said that if Mamdani becomes mayor and blocks ICE agents from making arrests in New York City, “Well, then we’ll have to arrest him.”
Trump added, “Look, we don’t need a communist in this country. But if we have one, I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation.”
Trump also amplified an allegation that Mamdani is in the country illegally.
“A lot of people are saying he’s here illegally. We’re going to look at everything,” he said.
Even if he is here legally, as is likely, some lawmakers have called for Mamdani to be denaturalized (stripped of his acquired citizenship) and deported.
Republican Rep. Andy Ogles wrote on X: “Zohran ‘little muhammad’ Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York. He needs to be DEPORTED.”
In the post he included a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi demanding an investigation into whether Mamdani gained U.S. citizenship through “willful misrepresentation or concealment of material support for terrorism.”
Ogles cited reports stating that Mamdani expressed solidarity with “individuals convicted of terrorism-related offenses prior to becoming a US citizen.”
According to the GOP rep, Mamdani previously rapped “Free the Holy Land Five / My guys,” thus showing support for terrorism.
“The Holy Land Foundation was convicted in 2008 for providing material support to Hamas, a designated foreign terrorist organization. Publicly praising the Foundation’s convicted leadership as ‘my guys’ raises serious concerns about whether Mr. Mamdani held affiliations or sympathies he failed to disclose during the naturalization process,” Ogles wrote in his letter.
While used rarely in recent decades, Team Trump has just made the denaturalization process much easier to do.
On June 11, the Justice Department (DOJ) issued a memo stating that it would “prioritize denaturalization” by instituting civil proceedings for people “if they either ‘illegally procured’ naturalization or procured naturalization by ‘concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation.’”
Two days later, DOJ announced that UK citizen Elliott Duke, a convicted collector and distributor of child sexual abuse material, had been denaturalized. So, there is a very recent precedent.
Still, as Slate notes, it’s unlikely that Trump would ever deport Mamdani. For no other reason than the president sees Mamdani as a wedge issue for Democrats. He also sees him, correctly, as an even better foil than California’s leftist Democrat governor Gavin Newsom.
Trump doesn’t want radical communist Mamdani ejected from America; he wants him to stay in NYC and fail. Maybe we should all want that.
