But will it have any significance outside the Beltway?
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s wife, State Senator Angela Paxton, filed for divorce after 38 years of marriage on Thursday, citing “biblical grounds” due to his alleged infidelity. Angela, who had previously stood by her husband during his 2023 impeachment trial, stated that recent revelations led her to believe that remaining in the marriage would not honor God or benefit their family.
Ken Paxton, currently campaigning for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Republican John Cornyn, attributed the separation to political pressures and public scrutiny. Despite allegations of an extramarital affair with a woman employed by donor Nate Paul, which played a central role in his impeachment, Paxton was narrowly acquitted by the GOP-dominated Texas Senate.
Politico dives deeper into the “megadrama” with fresh reporting and insider quotes:
The divorce could complicate the effort by Paxton — who has previously overcome criminal charges and impeachment — to challenge Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in one of the most closely-watched primary battles ahead of next year’s midterms.
Angela Paxton, who is also a state senator, wrote in a social media post that she filed for divorce from her husband after “recent discoveries” pushed her to end their marriage after 38 years. She did not specify what those discoveries were.
Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds.

I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to…
Her husband, for his part, chalked up the divorce to what he called “countless political attacks.”
After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives.

I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting…
Despite his past controversies, early polls indicate Paxton leads in the primary over Cornyn, who has served in the Senate for 22 years.
Cornyn told reporters on Capitol Hill that he feels “badly” for Angela Paxton and called the divorce a “private matter.”
The National Republican Senatorial Committee — the official campaign arm of Senate Republicans — didn’t hold back, blasting Paxton for “what he put his family through.”
What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting.

No one should have to endure what Angela Paxton has, and we pray for her as she chooses to stand up for herself and her family during this difficult time. https://t.co/OiEtOlKRVL

If one is going to use God as an excuse for a divorce, one should also consider…
1. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Is Paxton’s wife without sin?
2. What God has joined together, let NO MAN put asunder.
3. How we judge another will determine how we will be judged (by God).
No marriage is perfect. We ALL sin. We all need to be forgiven for mistakes we have made.
