In yet another eyebrow-raising moment from Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett, the freshman lawmaker appeared on comedian Hasan Minhaj’s podcast this week and delivered a series of bizarre remarks about political violence—managing to blame Trump supporters for assassination attempts against President Donald Trump.
Wearing a neon-yellow blazer and her trademark rhetorical overdrive, Crockett launched into a sweeping claim about violence in politics: “The violence doesn’t come from Democrats, just to be clear… it is MAGA, specifically the MAGA faction.”
While emphasizing she wasn’t referring to “traditional Republicans,” Crockett suggested that even attacks on Trump were somehow perpetrated by Trump supporters.
“They don’t talk about the assassination attempts anymore… but these were Trump supporters, right?”
It’s a statement that left even sympathetic hosts like Minhaj momentarily silent.
“As well as this most recent situation, they tried to flip it and say like, ‘Oh the leftists are,’ I’m like, this doesn’t even make sense, right, but it’s only, like MAGA, that does this,” the representative continued.
The Facts Say Otherwise
Despite Crockett’s confident delivery, there’s little factual basis for her claims.
The alleged July 2024 Trump shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, is still under investigation. A New York Times report from June 2025 revealed Crooks had a mixed political background: he made a $15 donation to a Democratic group on Biden’s inauguration day but later registered as a Republican. More notably, family members described him as suffering from severe mental illness, including hallucinations and speaking to imaginary people.
His political leanings, if any, remain unclear.
The same goes for Ryan Routh, the 59-year-old accused of a separate assassination attempt on Trump in September 2024. In a letter sent to Politico, Routh claimed to be fed up with both major parties and ranted about presidential power. He did refer to Trump as a “dictator,” but also distanced himself from any partisan allegiance, expressing disdain for both Democrats and Republicans.
Crockett’s Pattern of Bombastic Rhetoric
This isn’t Crockett’s first foray into highly charged and unverified claims. In a recent House hearing, she drew criticism for calling Trump supporters “mentally ill,” a remark that led to widespread backlash, including from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who called it “incredibly derogatory.”
She also gained viral attention earlier this year for a floor speech defending chaotic street brawls as expressions of “community frustration” and coining the phrase “stank speech,” which quickly became a meme across social media.
DHS and Republicans Push Back
Critics say Crockett’s latest comments exemplify a broader trend of reckless rhetoric that undermines public trust and politicizes violence. DHS officials, while not directly responding to Crockett, have emphasized the need for evidence-based investigations into political violence and warned against premature speculation or assigning motives without clear proof.
Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), who has served on Homeland Security committees, told The New York Times that Crooks’ mental health history was far more relevant than his voting record, noting the suspect was reportedly “talking to people who weren’t there.”
The Real Danger
The broader concern, according to many observers, is that lawmakers like Crockett continue to blur the lines between rhetoric and reality—making serious issues like political violence even more polarizing. While there’s no question that political tensions are high across the country, efforts to assign blame based on partisan preference rather than facts do little to solve the problem.
With multiple investigations into recent violent incidents still underway, most officials are urging restraint and patience. But for Rep. Crockett, speculation appears to be part of the brand.
As the 2026 midterms approach, it remains to be seen whether voters will reward her viral soundbites—or tire of what critics call unserious and inflammatory showmanship.

Block and deflect does not work anymore. Your pals comments and motivations to blame! If Trump supporters made comments like have been made, they would be in jail.
Well, she’s right. If there were no Trump there would be no Trump assassination attempt. So, IT’S TRUMP’S FAULT as always. for a dem wit.
The question remains: Not where they find these politicians, but where they find the people to vote for them.
Another democrat that believes that if you tell a lie often & loud enough people will start to think it is truth.
Do you feel manipulated ?
Facts – she don’t need no stinking facts, not when she can make egregious inflammatory statements to keep stirring the pot in her attempts to try to make DJT look bad. She knows that there are enough of the dem base that will simply go along with whatever she claims, after all ‘orange man bad’.
