Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

A secondary school in Warwickshire has issued a public apology after a 12-year-old girl was sent home for wearing a Union flag dress and barred from delivering a speech about British culture during a school event meant to celebrate diversity.

Courtney Wright, a Year 7 student at Bilton School in Rugby, attended the school’s “Culture Celebration Day” on Friday wearing a Union Jack dress reminiscent of the iconic outfit worn by Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell during the 1997 Brit Awards. Students had been encouraged to wear traditional clothing that reflected their nationality or family heritage and participate in activities promoting inclusion and cultural appreciation.

But Courtney’s participation was abruptly halted. According to her father, Stuart Field, she was removed from the festivities, separated from her peers, and made to wait in reception until he could pick her up — all because her positive expression of British identity was deemed “inappropriate.”

“It’s ironic they were having a cultural diversity day but then decided to single out a group of people,” Field said in a statement. “Others were allowed in burkas, niqabs or traditional Nigerian clothing. Somebody at the school has politicized a Union Jack dress even though that was clearly not Courtney’s intent.”

Field added that his daughter, a “straight-A” student, had carefully prepared a speech about British traditions — from afternoon tea and the Royal Family to Shakespeare and fish and chips. But she never got the chance to share it.

Backlash and Apology

The incident quickly sparked public outrage, prompting Bilton School’s governing body — the Stowe Valley Multi Academy Trust — to issue an apology and pledge reforms.

“We deeply regret the distress this has caused and offer our sincere and unreserved apologies,” the Trust said in a statement. “We have since spoken directly with the pupil and her family to listen to their concerns and reflect on how this could have been handled better.”

The school emphasized that its goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of background, feels “respected, valued, and included” and that pride in one’s heritage should never be suppressed.

Administrators also acknowledged that the day, intended to celebrate diversity, had excluded students expressing pride in being British — an irony not lost on critics.

Double Standards Alleged

Field further claimed that other students wearing symbols of British identity — including St George’s flags and Welsh flags — were also turned away or discouraged, while students in cultural attire from other national backgrounds were welcomed.

“She was told it’s not for her as she gets to be British every day,” Field wrote in a Facebook post.

The backlash highlights what some have called an emerging double standard in diversity initiatives — where minority cultures are celebrated, but expressions of majority culture are met with hostility.

Calls for Policy Reform

The school has pledged to review its policies and conduct additional staff training to prevent similar incidents. It emphasized its commitment to inclusion and vowed to better reflect the “values of inclusion, respect, and understanding for all.”

While Courtney and her family have accepted the school’s apology, the incident has sparked wider debate across the UK and the western world about the erosion of national identity — and whether the push to elevate “underrepresented” voices should come at the cost of marginalizing others.

As one commenter on social media noted: “Celebrating diversity shouldn’t mean excluding anyone — especially a child expressing pride in her country with a speech about tea and Shakespeare.”

Whether the school’s promised reforms will restore trust among parents and students remains to be seen, but the definition of inclusion is now itself under scrutiny.

The damage was already done, whoever sent this young girl out should be fired. It’s quite obvious that individual wasn’t interested in diversity but indoctrination that the white race and British individuals are the problem. The problem is as I see it, the white race is the only race that actually allows this crap to happen. No other race of people would go along with all these diversity initiatives.
