Maurene Comey — the eldest daughter of former FBI Director James Comey — was abruptly dismissed by the Department of Justice on Wednesday night. She served as a senior assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit, where she played a lead role in several high-profile cases, including those involving Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein, and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The DOJ cited Article II of the U.S. Constitution, which grants the president the authority to remove federal prosecutors without explanation.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
Trump on Wednesday fired back against his own supporters who opposed the decision not to release more materials from the Epstein investigation, accusing them of buying into a Democratic “hoax.”
Comey, who has worked as a prosecutor at the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York since 2015, took a leading role in the Maxwell case. Maxwell was convicted and sentenced to 20 years for sex trafficking. She has appealed her conviction to the Supreme Court.
In early 2024, Comey filed a declaration in federal court asking a judge to decline to make Epstein-related records public in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. Comey said that the release of the records, which included witness statements and other materials from the investigation, could interfere with any retrial of Maxwell. The judge denied the request.

Comey, a Harvard Law graduate (Class of 2013), joined SDNY in 2015 and quickly rose through the ranks. She led the prosecution of Ghislaine Maxwell in 2021 and was serving as chief prosecutor in the ongoing Diddy case at the time of her removal.
Her swift removal — and its timing — has sparked concerns about retaliation, especially given her father’s fraught relationship with President Trump and the ongoing Epstein controversy.

As stated before, IF Ghislaine Maxwell is finally allowed to testify, she’d better make sure that ALL CELL CAMERAS ARE WORKING, that all guards are on duty, that she finds somebody to taste her food before eating and that she finds a trusty-worthy companion when walking outdoors
