Anti-Second Amendment remarks made by a progressive community college professor in Maine have garnered enough attention that state lawmakers have entered the fray.

Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) professor Carol Lewandowski made the inappropriate remarks in her response to a paper written by student Kate Parker, who chose to address the state’s controversial “red-flag” law. Lewandowski had different thoughts about anti-gun laws and was quick to let her student know about it when refusing to grade her paper.
“I find this Second Amendment nonsense exhausting and highly recommend you choose a different topic since this is not one I can easily grade, given my own disdain for the misinterpretations of the Second Amendment,” the professor wrote in the Feedback Reading Report. “Hate to tell ya, but guns DO kill. Just ask the victims of the 200 shootings this year, or the parents of the Uvalde kids…”
The professor further wrote: “You clearly do not care about people as much as you care about guns. Your argument is a solid representation of that.”
In the end, Lewandowski summed up her disdain for the Second Amendment and the paper, saying: “You and your ilk drive me nuts with your hypocrisy. Guns Kill. Own it.”
The professor’s response quickly circulated and elicited a strong response from the National Rifle Association.
“It is disturbing that public schools in Maine have completely bowed to unhinged, woke indoctrination and distorted anti-gun rhetoric rather than providing an open environment for respectful discussion of the important public policy issues of the day,” John Commerford, NRA-ILA executive director, said in a news update. “Despite the professor’s obvious bias and unfounded remarks regarding gun ownership, Kate’s First Amendment rights to share her opinions on the Second Amendment and her faith should remain intact, without fear of retribution or ridicule.”
The controversy has even led some state lawmakers to call for Lewandowski’s firing. A letter signed by 50 Republican lawmakers stated: “We, the undersigned members of the Maine State Legislature, write to convey our strongest disapproval of the inappropriate comments allegedly made by Dr. Carol Lewandowski, a professor at Eastern Maine Community College, to one of her conservative students. Attempts to intimidate and silence students, especially based on religious status, ideology, and political affiliation, are completely unacceptable and run counter to the goals of higher education.”
The lawmakers concluded the letter: “There is no excuse for these comments, and we urge the system to fire this professor with immediate force and effect.”
Along with the calls for firing, the college has removed Lewandowski from the class in which the controversy occurred. According to an email obtained by the Maine Wire, Lynne Manion, another EMCC professor in the humanities department, will now be taking over for Lewandowski in teaching the oral communications course for the remainder of the summer semester.

When I was in college (about a billion years ago), a lot of my professors were retired Military Officers. (Highest rank was a retired 2-Star General)
They did not spout anti-firearms propaganda, but we did have intelligent, rational discussions about firearms in the community, and the NEED for the ability for self-defense.
Too bad now, “teachers” feel the need to indoctrinate, rather than teach.
WOW, Here I always thought it was people that kill! If what professor Lewandowski said was true, then mine are lazy!
