Authorities have reportedly carried out a search at the home of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is facing trial for allegedly inciting a coup against his political successor.
On Friday, police confirmed they carried out “two search and seizure warrants,” but did not specify whether Bolsonaro was the target, but local media outlets are reporting that he was according to Fox News.
Bolsonaro has reportedly been ordered to wear an ankle monitor. Additionally, Bolsonaro has been banned from using social media or contacting others under investigation, the Associated Press reported, citing local media. This would include his son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, a Brazilian lawmaker residing in the U.S. who is known for having ties to President Donald Trump. Media outlets in Brazil are also reporting that the former president has been forbidden from leaving home between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Additionally, Bolsonaro is reportedly prohibited from contacting foreign ambassadors and diplomats.
On Thursday, Trump called for an immediate end to the trial, saying that Bolsonaro is the victim of an “unjust system.”
“I have seen the terrible treatment you are receiving at the hands of an unjust system turned against you. This should end immediately!” Trump wrote in a letter he sent to Bolsonaro, which the president posted on his Truth Social account Thursday evening.

According to a 517-page indictment from Brazil’s Attorney General’s Office, submitted to the Supreme Court on Tuesday, stated: “In exercising the highest office of the republic, he instrumentalized the state apparatus and deliberately carried out a sustained system of attacks on public institutions and the succession process.”
A decision on whether Bolsonaro and his co-defendants will be convicted or acquitted is expected in September.
“All accusations are false. I have never violated democracy or the constitution,” Bolsonaro said on X, even before the Attorney General presented the final charges.
