The United Kingdom is warning it will formally recognize a Palestinian state if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire in Gaza and end the “appalling” suffering of its civilian population ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the shift Tuesday, marking a significant break from the U.K.’s longstanding policy of recognizing Palestinian statehood only as part of a negotiated two-state solution at the right time — namely, as part of a negotiated settlement with Israel. However, Starmer now says recognition will come unilaterally in two months and change — if Israel fails to:
- Accept a ceasefire agreement,
- Allow full access for humanitarian aid to Gaza,
- Abandon any further annexation plans in the West Bank,
- And reengage in meaningful negotiations with the Palestinians.
U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy added that any recognition would also require Hamas to disarm, release its remaining hostages, and relinquish control over Gaza.
Israel has forcefully rejected the U.K.’s announcement. A government spokesperson condemned the threat as “a reward for Hamas terror,” warning it would undermine any chance of real negotiations and embolden radical elements. The Israeli government has so far refused to commit to a longterm ceasefire, instead pursuing military operations aimed at eliminating Hamas.
However, in concerning development for Jerusalem, President Donald Trump’s position on Israel and Gaza has shifted significantly in recent months — he is no longer unconditionally siding with Israel as the war continues and humanitarian crisis deepens.
During a meeting yesterday in Scotland with Starmer, Trump publicly acknowledged “real starvation” in Gaza and told Israel to let in “every ounce of food,” directly contradicting Netanyahu’s statement that hunger reports were false.
When asked by a reporter whether he had an issue with Starmer’s ultimatum for Israel, Trump replied, “We have no view on that.”

Does the UK have any conditions for Hamas to accept? Does it always have to be a one-way street with no regard for the future? Does the UK really want Hamas to regroup and work with Iran (which is being rearmed by China) to stage attacks on Israel? Are there any conditions that would prevent them from keeping their war of annihilation going? Does this advocacy increase or decrease their credibility?
Then there is the big question: Do the UK, France, and Canada have any idea what they are doing or what they want to accomplish?
It is truly sad and dangerous that “world leaders” and media people could over come their anti Jewish bias and applied logic to the “Gaza aid” situation. First think who gains and who loses with the disprution of aid to the people of Gaza? Hamas has a long history, repeatedly seen of using its people as shields and benefiting in the sacrifice of these people. Hamas has long placed weapons, communications, fighters etc in clearly civilian places , like mosques, schools, hospitals where “civilian” casualties would be guaranteed to get good media coverage. So too Hamas benefits in many ways by interferring with the distribution of aid in Gaza. Hamas has long stolen aid and used it for its on use including reselling it in Gaza and abroad for monetary and political gain. Israel in contrast loses if there is any harm to civilians. We have repeatedly seen coverage of “civilian” suffering being blamed on Israel regardless to its cause. Israel has long been very proactive trying to avoid civilian casualties what other nation sends voice mails, texts, pamphlets, and other warnings to people that a military action is planned for an area? What other nation seeks to avoid damage to civilian infrastructure? Certainly not Russia which has intentionally targeted, infrastructure like power, water, sewerage, hospitalsand schools. By the way where is the out cry against Russia? They did the same thing in Chechnya destroying infrastructure and civilians forcing capitulation, there are many other examples. What other nation, besides Israel, has been required to provide water, power, food, and communications to an enemy in the midst of a war while the enemy holds and murders hostages? The campaign denouncing Israel will encourage terrorists and others to use there own people as sacrifices in the future.
“ It is truly sad and dangerous that “world leaders” and media people could (never) over come their anti Jewish bias and applied logic to the “Gaza aid” situation.”
Pardon the insert for easier reading. Well written and sadly true. Israel is backed against a wall facing vicious immoral opposition and heavily criticized for squirming free repeatedly. Their enormous victories in the face of such evil attacks clearly demonstrates the Hand of God.
