Record 78,000 Americans Apply To Join ICE

Good morning.

Congress is mounting its strongest challenge yet to President Trump’s Iran War, federal prosecutors have unveiled a sanctions-evasion case tied to Iran’s nuclear program, and investigators in Washington, D.C., are digging deeper into allegations that police officials manipulated crime statistics.

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve a war powers resolution to limit unauthorized American military involvement in Iran.

Sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, the measure would require the White House.

In a powerful sign of renewed national support for border security and immigration enforcement, a record 78,000 Americans have applied to join U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since the Trump administration launched its new recruitment initiative just last week.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons confirmed the overwhelming surge in applicants during a recent interview with Fox News. “We have almost 78,000 applicants since we opened up,” Lyons stated. “We’re going through and finding those people that really want to serve the country and really be in law enforcement. I think it’s a great way to recruit.”

The influx of applicants comes as the Trump administration prioritizes the restoration of strong, lawful immigration enforcement after what many critics described as years of lax policies under the previous administration. According to Lyons, many former ICE officers who had resigned or retired early due to earlier political restrictions are now returning to the agency. “We’re taking back our rehired annuitants — people that left the job early because they weren’t allowed to do the law enforcement mission,” he said.

Nation Responding to the Call

Lyons noted that the current administration’s clear mission has helped rebuild ICE’s credibility and attract patriotic Americans eager to serve.

“The Trump administration has created a viable law enforcement partner in the community, actually out there making a difference,” Lyons said. “We’re really ecstatic about seeing the increase in new recruits that are applying.”

Massive Recruitment Campaign Across the Nation

The surge follows a joint recruitment campaign launched by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ICE, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to attract qualified candidates — especially military veterans and local law enforcement officers — to help secure the border and deport illegal aliens.

DHS unveiled patriotic posters, digital ads, and hiring fairs across the country, including at colleges, career expos, and law enforcement centers. The materials emphasize service, duty, and the importance of restoring law and order across U.S. communities.

ICE is offering competitive incentives including:

  • Up to $50,000 in signing bonuses
  • Student loan repayment and forgiveness programs
  • 25% Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) for HSI Special Agents
  • Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUI) for Deportation Officers
  • Enhanced retirement benefits

ICE has also opened the door to military veterans and retiring service members, encouraging them to take critical federal law enforcement roles. A Department of Defense initiative announced last month facilitates this transition, ensuring the U.S. government retains top-tier talent.

A Nationwide Effort — And A Clear Mandate

Applicants include former Border Patrol agents who retired between July 2020 and July 2024. CBP is accepting reemployment applications for GS-12 and GS-13 positions, targeting highly experienced personnel ready to return under a new administration.

Funding for these efforts comes directly from the “One Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping piece of legislation signed by President Trump, which included major provisions for border security, national defense, and law enforcement revitalization.

Pushback from the Left

As expected, Democrats and civil rights groups continue to oppose the Trump administration’s enforcement priorities. Some have staged protests, attempted to obstruct ICE operations, and even defended individuals living in the U.S. illegally.

According to DHS figures, attacks on ICE agents have skyrocketed by over 830% in recent months, yet the agency remains undeterred — and is now bolstered by a flood of new applicants prepared to uphold the law. Despite this opposition, the public appears to be responding decisively.

ICE is now encouraging any American “with a commitment to public safety, national service, and upholding the rule of law” to apply at www.ice.gov/careers.

The Big Picture

ICE is not alone in benefitting from a surge in patriotic enlistment. Agencies like the United States Secret Service, Border Patrol, Coast Guard, and the U.S. Armed Forces are also reporting record application numbers, suggesting a cultural shift toward law, order, and accountability.

In a time when national identity and security are once again front and center, the record-breaking interest in ICE suggests that Americans are stepping up to protect their country.
