The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is undergoing a major recruitment surge, with a goal of adding 10,000 new agents and officers in the coming year. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons made the announcement during a recent appearance on Breitbart News Daily, emphasizing the agency’s intent to restore and expand its ranks under President Donald Trump’s leadership and with guidance from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
“We’re hiring at an extreme high rate,” Lyons stated, pointing to years of neglect under the previous administration. According to him, ICE’s enforcement and removal operations — the division responsible for deporting illegal immigrants and apprehending fugitives — were “decimated” and are now a priority for rebuilding.
Targeting Military Veterans, Law Enforcement, and Legal Professionals
The recruitment effort revolves around attracting individuals with law enforcement backgrounds, military veterans, and legal professionals who are driven to serve in federal immigration enforcement roles.
“We want someone that wants to serve their country, somebody that wants to make a difference, someone that wants to help protect this nation,” Lyons said. He added that ICE is looking for those “motivated” and “dedicated” to join the agency’s mission of public safety and homeland protection.
Positions include deportation officers, special agents for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and attorneys within the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor. Lyons highlighted the deportation officer role, describing it as an “honored position” and one that requires rigorous training and commitment.
Incentives: $50,000 Signing Bonuses and Loan Forgiveness
In a bid to attract top-tier talent, ICE is offering financial incentives including up to $50,000 in signing bonuses and student loan repayment options. These incentives are part of a broader strategy to compete with other federal and local law enforcement agencies for skilled personnel.
“We’re looking to bring on the best and brightest,” said Lyons. “We weren’t allowed to recruit heavy before. Our ranks were thin. But now, under this administration, we’re changing that.”
A Renewed Emphasis on Enforcement
This surge in hiring is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to reinvigorate immigration enforcement nationwide. Lyons emphasized that the agency is focused on restoring capacity lost in recent years and executing an aggressive recruitment strategy to meet operational demands.
The announcement comes amid a broader political debate over immigration and border security, with the Trump administration doubling down on strict enforcement policies. ICE’s push to hire thousands of new personnel signals that immigration enforcement will remain a cornerstone of the administration’s public safety platform.
As ICE continues to recruit nationwide, the agency is calling on patriotic Americans from all backgrounds — particularly those with experience in law enforcement, military service, or the legal field — to consider joining its ranks.
“This is your chance to be part of something bigger,” Lyons said. “To protect your community, to protect the homeland, and to serve your country with honor.”
