Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) has faced a torrent of criticism from former staffers this week, with multiple aides describing her as “a diva” whose behavior creates a toxic workplace environment in congressional offices.
According to a report in The New York Post, several former aides accused Crockett of rarely entering her Washington, D.C. office except when cameras are rolling and frequently berating staff over minor issues. One ex-employee alleged, “She is laying around her apartment, won’t come into the office … indifferent to staff and will scream at them.”
Another source described Crockett’s behavior as capricious, saying she “freaks out over the most random things.” Others claim Crockett is more focused on cultivating a media presence than on constituent concerns: “She’s more focused on ‘Get me on The View,’ ‘Get me on this late-night talk show….’ She’s not actually doing any real work … it’s like a spectacle and a show.”
“A lot of [congressional] hearings are on the most boring, basic s—. So how is it at every hearing, it’s about Trump? It’s about Trump again and again and again. And it’s like, she’s not actually doing any real work. She’s at a hearing — we can be talking about the budget, they can be talking about appropriations — and she brings it back to Trump every time,” the source griped.
Travel Demands, Abrasive Exchanges
Several former aides recounted Crockett to be demanding during short trips—preferring to travel by rental vehicles rather than staff cars, and insisting on riding in luxury SUVs like Escalades. Staff were reportedly expected to open doors for her, even for brief journeys to or from office locations.
Behavior described as dismissive extended to remarks made toward staff. One former aide quoted Crockett saying: “That’s not offensive. You’re stupid if you think so” in reference to objections from gay staffers over her use of the word “butch” in commentary about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
At least one aide recounted being driven to tears when Crockett snapped: “Do you really want to be here? If not, you can leave!”
Staff Turnover and Internal Culture
Multiple sources said Crockett’s office has seen high turnover, especially among young staffers and women of color. One remarked that the office had become “an island unto itself,” with employees feeling isolated and undervalued.
“Like working for a young black woman you’d expect empowerment—but truly, the only person she thinks about and cares about is herself.”
Another aide, a young black woman, was fired abruptly and confided to a colleague: “I don’t want to hear Jasmine Crockett talk about helping black women when she just fired one for no reason!”
A job posting for Crockett’s office circulated among Democratic staff groups, but reportedly drew no interest.
Crockett has also cycled through several chiefs of staff, with one observer saying it’s “because they want her to do her actual job, and the actual job of a member of Congress isn’t fun and glamorous. So unless you are somebody willing to say yes to all of the outrageous things she would like to do, you’re not gonna last long.”
Allegations of Entitled Behavior
Crockett was also criticized in May after allegedly cutting in line ahead of two disabled individuals at an airport—a move some sources called “very indicative of who she is.”
In a profile in The Atlantic, a journalist recounted that emails to Crockett’s office and voicemail lines went unanswered, further supporting claims of disengagement from staff.
