Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Trump confirms they will discuss “land swapping” when they meet on Friday in Alaska for a high-stakes summit on the Ukraine war. But the president expressed frustration with Volodymyr Zelensky for putting conditions on such a potential agreement.

Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S. said “all of Ukraine prays” for the Friday meeting between President Trump and Vladimir Putin to be “effective and to have great results.”

The Russian past of Alaska, where Trump and Putin will meet. Putin becomes first Russian leader to visit Alaska.

Ukraine says it hit Russian oil refinery in drone exchanges, as daily aerial exchanges intensify with diplomatic momentum to end the war in play.

As the U.S. pushes for renewed Russia-Ukraine ceasefire talks, Pretoria finds itself back in the thick of the preparations.

IRAN THREAT – MIDDLE EAST

CHINA THREAT

Unprecedented: The simultaneous appearance of five Chinese icebreaking vessels in the Arctic region near Alaska is two and a half times the number of icebreakers currently capable of being operated in the entire Arctic region by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Coast Guard responds to increased Chinese research vessel activity in U.S. Arctic. It detected and responded to two Chinese research vessels and is currently monitoring a total of five similar vessels in or near the U.S Arctic.

‘Irregular’ Chinese flotilla spotted in Luzon Strait. A flotilla of three Chinese cutters was spotted near the waters of Manila’s northernmost island chain, prompting the Philippine Coast Guard to track their movements.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Latest addition to Ukraine’s growing series of ad-hoc anti-drone measures is one of its most impressive so far: a propeller-driven crop-duster aircraft toting infrared-guided air-to-air missiles under the wings.

European nations rallied behind Ukraine, saying peace in the war-torn nation can’t be resolved without Kyiv, ahead of a planned meeting between President Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

Netherlands funds $500M US equipment package for Ukraine under the Alliance’s new Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, fully funded by the Netherlands.

SPACE THREAT

Cummings Aerospace unveiled a variant of its Hellhound drone designed to meet Golden Dome homeland defense missions at the Space and Missile Defense Symposium.

NASA is courting DOD with dual-use space technologies that could support Golden Dome for America, the ambitious plan for a satellite-enabled global missile shield.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

U.S. military forces will not strike Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum vowed in response to reports that Trump has secretly directed DOD to act against Latin American drug cartels.

Four carriers form one of the most powerful fleets at sea. Aircraft carriers from the UK, Japan and the U.S. have gathered in the Northern Philippine Sea in a high-profile demonstration of allied naval power during Operation Highmast.

US MILITARY

Air Force has arrested an airman in connection with the July 20 death of another airman, which involved a Sig Sauer M18 and led the service to suspend the use of the pistol following the incident.

Aeromedical evacuation Airmen are preparing for future conflicts where scores more wounded troops will be in worse condition after being cut off from higher-level medical care by enemy air defenses.

Army plans to use AI chatbot “digital recruiters” to help West Point recruit high school students.

Army will pick winner of its first high-energy, vehicle-mounted air-defense lasers next year, a milestone in DOD’s decades-long pursuit of practical directed-energy weapons. But commanders and troops need to be convinced to forgo today’s interceptor missiles and other options.

Army will be creating a marketplace to better match drones with units based on their requirements.
