Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has directed the Virginia State Police to launch a criminal investigation into serious allegations that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) officials facilitated and paid for abortions for underage students without parental consent — a clear violation of state law.
The investigation stems from a bombshell report alleging that a social worker at Centreville High School in Union Hill arranged and financed at least one abortion for a 17-year-old student in 2021 without notifying the student’s parents. The accusations, if true, raise grave concerns about the deliberate circumvention of Virginia’s parental consent laws and the potential misuse of taxpayer funds.
“I am deeply concerned with the allegations that Fairfax County Public Schools officials arranged for minors to get abortions without parental consent and may have misused public funds to pay for them,” Governor Youngkin said in a statement released Wednesday. “I am directing the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation to open a full criminal investigation into the matter immediately.”
Virginia law is clear; parental consent and notification are required before a minor can obtain an abortion. Any school employee who facilitated such procedures without meeting those legal requirements could face serious criminal charges.
Fairfax County Public Schools responded by saying it has also opened its own internal investigation.
“We learned yesterday of these concerning allegations from 2021,” FCPS said in a statement to local media. “We are launching an immediate and comprehensive investigation as we take all concerns of student wellbeing very seriously.”
However, questions are now swirling around whether FCPS officials ignored internal warnings. According to a report from Fox News, Centreville High School teacher Zenaida Perez claimed she reported the issue to school officials no fewer than seven times since May 2022 — more than two years before the district finally acknowledged the matter publicly.
Despite this, FCPS offered no explanation for the delay and told Breitbart News only that it is “prepared to fully cooperate” with the state police investigation, adding: “As this is an ongoing personnel matter, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
The implications of these allegations are serious. Beyond the potential criminal violations, the situation has outraged parents and community members who are questioning whether FCPS betrayed the trust placed in educators and staff. The idea that school employees may have taken it upon themselves to make medical decisions for minors — without informing their families — has drawn widespread condemnation.
With both the state police and FCPS now investigating, answers will be demanded in the weeks ahead. But for many Virginians, this case goes beyond just one school or one incident — it’s about protecting parental rights, ensuring transparency in public institutions, and holding those who break the law fully accountable.
The investigation remains ongoing.
