Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

Following a disturbing incident involving two of his granddaughters…

James Edwin Yokeley Jr., 66, a Republican and chair of the Surry County Board of Elections, was arrested Aug. 26 after a serious incident directly involved two of his granddaughters.

According to law enforcement, the teens — ages 15 and 16 — discovered hard objects in their Dairy Queen Blizzards on Aug. 8. Surveillance video allegedly shows Yokeley placing crushed pills into the frozen treats.

Lab tests later identified the substances as cocaine and MDMA (commonly referred to as ecstasy or molly). Thankfully, neither girl consumed the tainted desserts.

Yokeley was taken into custody and released the same day after posting a $100,000 secured bond.

He now faces a slate of serious charges: felony child abuse, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of contaminating food or drink with a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11.

People magazine continues:

Yokeley, a Republican, served as the chair of the Surry County Board of Elections until resigning on Thursday. He was appointed in June to chair the board by State Auditor Dave Boliek, who this week called for Yokeley’s resignation or removal, according to WRAL and the News & Observer.

As the state Board of Elections was set to convene an emergency meeting regarding the situation on Thursday, Yokeley sent a letter to Boliek announcing his intent to resign, a decision he said was not made “lightly” in light of what he called “falsely accused circumstances.”

“After much prayer, thoughtful reflection and consultation, I have concluded that it’s in the best interest of the State Board of Elections and Surry County Board of Elections, regarding my own falsely accused circumstances, to step down at this time.”

Yokeley expressed confidence that he would be “exonerated of all accusations levied against me.”

Boliek was reportedly preparing to ask the state Board of Elections to forcibly remove Yokeley if he refused to resign voluntarily.
