Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

While he denied threatening.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Venezuela prepares for potential U.S. attack with armed drones designed by Iran.  As the Caracas regime declares it will deploy drones to defend itself amid growing tensions triggered by the dispatch of more than half a dozen powerful U.S. warships to the waters off its Caribbean coast, few people know the details of how Venezuela developed one of Latin America’s most advanced unmanned aircraft programs.

Fewer still know that the drones, though built on Venezuelan soil, are controlled to some extent by Iran.

The long-standing links between Caracas and Tehran have been a source of contention as the Venezuelan regime has allowed Hezbollah, an Iran-controlled terrorist group, to use the Latin American country as an entry point into the region.

The U.S. has published analyses on the “new asymmetric threat” posed by drones in the hands of an Iranian-allied regime. The main concern is that it could transfer technology to other governments or to criminal and paramilitary organizations in the region.

There is also concern that the Teheran-Caracas relationship might turn the South American country into an important center for the production of Iran’s kamikaze drones.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

When Trump’s administration last month awarded a contract worth up to $1.2 billion to build and operate what it says will become the nation’s largest immigration detention complex, it didn’t turn to a large government contractor or even a firm that specializes in private prisons.

Trump administration is pausing training at the federal government’s primary law enforcement academies for anyone not related to immigration enforcement, saying the change is necessary to meet the president’s “immediate priorities.”

DEFENSE POLITICS

DOD is scrapping its old playbook for defending against small drones, moving toward a model that comes with new money and authority geared to fast-track capability.
