From a political maneuver shaking up New York City’s mayoral race to a deadly U.S. military strike ordered personally by President Trump, and an emotional scene in Minneapolis as Vice President JD Vance confronts the aftermath of a school shooting — Wednesday was a day of high stakes, hard truths, and historic consequences.
Trump Courts NYC Mayor in Surprise Shake-Up Play
In a stunning twist to New York’s heated mayoral race, President Donald Trump’s allies have reportedly offered sitting Mayor Eric Adams a federal post in exchange for dropping out of his re-election campaign. They’re proposing a position at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to Politico.
The reported maneuver is part of a larger plan to consolidate moderate support behind former Governor Andrew Cuomo, as democratic socialist frontrunner Zohran Mamdani gains traction in the polls. The strategy was reportedly hashed out during Adams’ quiet visit to Florida earlier this week — a trip he later described vaguely as involving meetings with local leaders.
Adams insists he’s staying in the race, saying he’s “looking to continue to serve the people of New York.” Yet his past comments — hinting at job flexibility and a history of pivoting between roles — only fueled speculation. A campaign spokesperson firmly denied the mayor ever met with Trump.
Meanwhile, Mamdani is capitalizing on the report, framing Cuomo as “Trump’s choice” for the city. With federal prosecutors dropping a corruption case against Adams earlier this year, allegedly in exchange for his support of Trump’s immigration policies, political tensions in the city continue to rise.
Trump Launches Military Strike on Narco-Terrorists
President Trump isn’t just waging political battles — he’s taking aim at cartel kingpins, too.
Early Wednesday morning, on Trump’s direct order, U.S. military forces executed a precision strike in international waters, obliterating a drug-smuggling vessel linked to Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan narco-terrorist organization. All 11 traffickers aboard were killed, and a video released by Trump shows the boat engulfed in flames before sinking.
“No U.S. Forces were harmed in this strike,” Trump declared on Truth Social. “Let this be a notice to anyone thinking of bringing drugs into our country. BEWARE!”
The strike marks the first known use of a controversial executive order Trump signed in August, authorizing military force against specific Latin American cartels. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed the administration’s hardline stance, stating, “We are going to wage combat against drug cartels that are killing Americans.”
The American government has formally designated Tren de Aragua and Venezuela’s Cartel De Los Soles as terrorist organizations, with Rubio calling Nicolás Maduro the head of a criminal cartel — not a legitimate president.
VP Vance Confronts Grief and Fury After Church Shooting
Vice President JD Vance made an emotional visit to Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis yesterday, where he met with victims and families impacted by last week’s devastating mass shooting.
“I really felt like these parents, in the midst of the worst grief of their entire lives, they opened up their lives and they opened up their hearts and they made me part of it,” he said. “They told me about their kids. They told me about their families. They told me about the community supporting them. And that was just an amazing thing to see, an amazing thing to witness, an amazing thing. To get to be a part of.”
The shooter, Robin Westman, 23, a transgender individual formerly known as Robert, opened fire during a children’s Mass, killing two young students and injuring 21 others. Authorities confirmed all weapons used were purchased legally.
Outside the church, Vance was met with angry protesters waving pride flags and chanting slogans like “Protect our kids” and “Do better.” Inside, he consoled grieving parents and lit candles at a memorial for 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski, whose lives were cut short.
“I’ve never had a day that will stay with me like this one,” said Vance. “We should talk more about the kids — less about the shooter.”
One child remains in critical condition.
