Loopholes In State Pro-Life Laws Mean Planned Parenthood Still Raking In Cash, Report Says

A new report from a pro-life civil rights group finds Planned Parenthood is still operating scores of profitable facilities in reportedly pro-life states, fueled in part by gaping loopholes in supposed abortion bans.

“Despite political branding, there are no truly pro-life states in America. Planned Parenthood’s presence — and profits — remain strong even where lawmakers claim to have limited abortion access,” the American Life League reports.

A new report from ALL finds:

Planned Parenthood thrives in “pro-life” states: 

* Texas — after three recent closures — still has 29 facilities, more than any pro-abortion state except California (106), New York (47), and Washington (30). 

Florida and Indiana, also labeled “pro-life,” have more facilities than many states considered abortion-friendly. 

* Mississippi is the only “pro-life” state without a Planned Parenthood facility. 

Pro-life states bring in massive Planned Parenthood income: 

* 11 affiliates in “pro-life” states average $41.2 million in income annually. 

* 41 affiliates in pro-abortion states average $43.3 million — almost no difference. 

* Example: Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky earns $85.4 million, with more facilities in “pro-life” states (14) than in pro-abortion states (4). 

All states allow abortion exceptions: 

* Even the four “heartbeat law” states allow abortion after six weeks in many or most cases. 

* Florida recently added human trafficking as a new exception to its “pro-life” law.

“I’ve heard life-advocates celebrate over states that have laws intended to protect preborn life at conception,” explained Katie Brown Xavios, American Life League National Director, “and yet those same states have active Planned Parenthood facilities and readily accessible abortion services. Despite legislative intentions, preborn babies are being aborted at record numbers in these so-called pro-life states.’ To call a state in which that happens ‘pro-life’ is both a myth and a travesty.” 

Xavios warned, “states need to enact laws that protect every pre-born child and mother without exception. The exceptions are the cracks that entities like Planned Parenthood prey on, and allow them to perform numerous abortions all while lawmakers can toute a “pro-life state”. Babies condemned to the exception clause matter just as much as every other child, and until states seek to protect every single pre-born baby, they should not get to call themselves a pro-life state” 

Katherine Van Dyke, the projects lead researcher states, “No state in America is abortion free. Even those states that enforce heartbeat laws still allow hundreds of thousands of preborn babies to be put to death in the weeks before their heartbeat is detectable and through exceptions post six-weeks’ gestation. Florida has exceptions for abortion after six-weeks in all cases and even has an exception for human trafficking, as of 2024. Planned Parenthood continues to profit – more so in some so called ‘pro-life states’ than in those openly promoting and supporting abortion.”
