ABC/Disney has announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, after being pulled “indefinitely.”
The suspension followed controversial comments Kimmel made in a monologue regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and the backlash that ensued from media ownership groups, the FCC, etc.
The network said the show was suspended to avoid inflaming an already tense situation and that thoughtful conversations took place between Disney and Kimmel in the meantime.
It’s not fully known whether all affiliates that pulled the show (e.g. Nexstar, Sinclair) will immediately resume airing it on Tuesday or whether some will impose additional conditions.
After Jimmy Kimmel falsely tied Charlie Kirk’s assassin to the MAGA movement — even though law enforcement pointed to his left-wing leanings — FCC Chair Brendan Carr controversially warned that ABC could lose its broadcast license and hinted at bigger shakeups ahead for the media landscape.
Brendan Carr, as FCC Commissioner, vocally condemned Biden Admin's pressure/threats toward Big Tech and cable outlets to censor.

Now, as FCC Chair, he threatened outlets to remove Kimmel, now praises Nextar (with a $6b merger pending) for compliance. He told me this last year: https://t.co/wD0l4a5jEu pic.twitter.com/8KtSZh6jwQ
CNBC provides more detailed information:
The decision was announced nearly a week after ABC said it was suspending the late night show indefinitely. The network had pulled the show days after the host made comments linking the alleged killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk to President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive,” Disney said in a statement Monday. “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
The late night host will address the matter during his show set to be taped on Tuesday, according to a person familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters.
The show was suspended after broadcast TV station owner Nexstar Media Group announced its stations affiliated with ABC would preempt Kimmel’s show.
Details about any changes to the show’s format, content oversight, or editorial tone haven’t been disclosed — if any revisions will accompany the return are not public yet.

Is anyone at all surprised ? I doubt ABC saw any problem with his ‘joke’. The guy is not funny or even worth watching.
GOOFY loves low ratings.
