Qatari fighter pilots will soon train in Idaho, the Pentagon confirmed Friday, unveiling plans for a new F-15 facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base as part of a growing defense partnership.
Laura Loomer wasted no time attacking the Trump administration Friday, tearing into the Pentagon’s decision to host Qatari military training in Idaho and accusing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth of betraying American interests.
Loomer swiftly accusing the administration of “giving a military base to Qatar” — a claim the Defense Department disputes, insisting the facility will remain under full U.S. control.
On social media, Loomer unleashed her anger in sharp terms. “Never thought I’d see Republicans give terror financing Muslims from Qatar a MILITARY BASE on US soil so they can murder Americans,” she wrote. She denounced the plan as an “abomination,” cast doubt on the security risks of granting foreign powers such access within the United States, and even went so far as to threaten withholding her vote in the following year’s midterm elections.
She also invoked past remarks from President Trump criticizing Qatar’s alleged ties to extremist organizations, framing the new deal as hypocritical.
Under the deal, Qatar will fund the construction, while contractors will be under U.S. military supervision.
The facility is not exactly a “Qatar military base” in the traditional sense; rather, it is intended for training and interoperability, embedded within an existing U.S. base.
Mountain Home isn’t new to foreign training — the base already works with countries like Singapore under similar agreements.
Still, critics worry about national security, intelligence risk, and foreign influence — especially given Qatar’s complex regional relationships.
Other observers have questioned whether the agreement was debated transparently and whether it risks giving up too much in terms of U.S. strategic posture.
While Qatar is part of U.S.-led counterterrorism cooperation and hosts a major U.S. air base (Al Udeid), used in operations against ISIS and al-Qaeda, it has provided significant financial and political support to Hamas, which the U.S. and EU designate as a terrorist organization.
Qatar also hosted the Taliban’s political office in Doha, which became the site of U.S.-Taliban peace negotiations. Critics argue this gave the group legitimacy; Qatar argues it was facilitating dialogue to end war in Afghanistan.
The authoritarian monarchy has been accused of supporting Muslim Brotherhood affiliates in Egypt and elsewhere. Some Gulf neighbors (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt) imposed a blockade from 2017–2021, partly over this issue.
Assessments by U.S. agencies and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) note that Qatar has strengthened its legal framework to combat terrorist financing since the mid-2010s. However, enforcement has been inconsistent, and recent reports highlight that private individuals in Qatar continue to funnel money to extremist organizations.
Despite criticism from Loomer and others, the U.S. continues to designate Qatar as a major non-NATO ally and relies on Doha as a key partner in regional diplomacy.

Not a wise decision just because we have a USA military base in Qatar. Qatar should be investigated for sending money to USA University apparently funding protesters. This country harbors Hamas leadership they play all sides of the street but are an Islamic nation. Why couldn’t you have chosen a military base in another country that we operate from? You may come to regret this. The old TV series Lost in Space, “Danger Will Robinson Danger” seems appropriate here. Best intentions can sometimes be the worst intentions.
This is wholly consistent with Trump’s alliance with Al Qaeda in Syria, helping them slaughter Syrian Christians.
