Another incendiary claim from Jasmine Crockett…
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) accused Republicans of “trying to cheat” in the 2026 midterm elections and claimed that the new pro-MAGA owner of Dominion Voting Systems has bolstered the nefarious plot.
On Monday, Crockett made the brazen charge during an appearance on the Defending Democracy podcast, hosted by Marc Elias. The Texas Democrat said she’s on high alert heading into next year’s elections, after a company owned by Scott Leiendecker, a supporter of President Donald Trump, bought the voting machine company last month. “I personally believe that that ally purchased Dominion so that he could potentially play with the machines,” Crockett said on the podcast, presumably referring to Leiendecker. “Because we know that they’re trying to cheat by changing the lines for the midterms, and I think they’re to solidify their cheat with the voting machines.”
Trump repeatedly criticized Dominion following the 2020 election, calling the company “very suspect.”
A number of other conservatives accused Dominion of rigging the 2020 election in Joe Biden’s favor as well, and the company famously settled a defamation lawsuit with Fox News for $787.5 million in 2023. (RELATED: Fox News Reaches Last-Minute Settlement With Dominion Voting Systems)
Crockett, during her podcast appearance on Monday, noted she was “so excited” to see Prop 50 passed in California last week. The proposition, which was backed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), will reshape the state’s congressional districts, potentially resulting in five more blue-leaning districts.
“Big ups to Gov. Newsom,” Crockett said.
“California stepped up. Now, we are taking this fight across the country — helping Democrats in other states push back against Trump’s election rigging,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement to Fox News Digital last week, as he pointed to the push by Trump and Republicans for rare mid-decade redistricting.
Redistricting efforts are unfolding in Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio—three states where Republicans are working to solidify representation amid continued population and demographic shifts. On the Democrat side, Illinois, Maryland, and Virginia are moving toward new maps of their own, with blue-state legislatures seeking to reinforce their advantages ahead of 2026.
Crockett, a moment later, said she does not “think that [Trump] wants to make the ballot box accessible. And I don’t know that he’s above cheating. In fact, I would argue that he is a cheater.”
Elias chimed in “He’s definitely not above cheating,” before chuckling.
