Donald Trump Jr. had a heated exchange with MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff at the Republican National Convention on Monday, marking the first dramatic moment of the long-awaited political gathering.
The Scene Unfolds
On that same day, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance was announced as former President Donald Trump’s running mate. Trump himself made a surprise appearance – 48 hours after an assassination attempt – to raucous applause. However, the day’s first viral moment came when Soboroff approached Trump Jr. and his brother Eric on the floor of the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Heated Words Over Divisiveness Claims
Right from the start, the interaction was contentious. Soboroff questioned whether Donald Trump was a divisive figure in light of recent events. Trump Jr. pushed back forcefully, blaming the media for creating divisiveness.
“I don’t think he was a divisive figure at all. I think the media created divisiveness around him. They lied about Russia, Russia collusion, they said he was a traitor, they went after him in every which way possible,” Trump Jr. asserted as his fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Eric Trump looked on.
Trump Jr. argued that if the media covered his father’s achievements honestly, including prosperity and peace deals, it would benefit the entire country.
Immigration and Rising Tensions
The conversation then shifted to immigration. Soboroff asked if there would be another round of family separations if Trump’s deportation plans were implemented. The question pushed Trump Jr. to his limit.
“It’s MSNDNC so I expect nothing less from you clowns even today,” Trump Jr. retorted, ridiculing the left-wing network. “Even 48 hours later, you couldn’t wait, you couldn’t wait with your lies and with your nonsense, so just get out of here.”
Trump Jr. then dismissed Soboroff, waving him off and returning his attention to the convention.
On Saturday, a mere half-inch was all that stood between a high-speed 5.56 mm rifle round and Trump’s brain. A slight, timely turn of his head caused the bullet to strike and pass through his right ear instead.
Tragically, one rally attendee was killed, and two others were critically injured.
