Our Second Civil War is here. The latest polls aren’t good for the future of our country. Most Americans of both parties and all affiliations agree that not only will political violence keep growing, but that a political candidate or official will be assassinated in the next few years.
This feeling corresponds with my view that we are already in a low-level civil war that is only going to get worse. Note the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and the attempts on President Trump’s life in 2024. Not to mention daily violence against federal officers and agents doing immigration enforcement.
All these incidents have crystallized the era we are now in.
And other experts are finally agreeing with me. As Politico reported, Robert Pape, a University of Chicago political science professor, is no longer simply warning that our nation is on the brink of civil conflict, as he did just five months ago.
“We’re not on the brink of it, we’re firmly in the grip of it,” Pape told Politico, saying the country is now in an era of “violent populism.”
I call it a low-level civil war.
But whatever the term used, it doesn’t necessarily mean two armies of like-minded states fighting each other, though that could be a scenario involving red and blue states. It does mean greater violence, riots, and assassinations at the city, state, and national levels.
America is simply too divided, and the divisions are too deep and stark for compromise. These divisions are many and cut to the core of our civic and even human identity.
Militant atheism and radical transgenderism versus traditional Christianity, socialism and Marxism versus free market capitalism, mass illegal migration versus law and order, and preserving our national identity.
And these divides have spread to include blue cities versus red states, blue states versus a red federal government, and blue versus red states. They also include rural versus urban and many other deep divides that increasingly represent polar opposite world views.
Partly because of this, and partly because of the evils of social media, a recent poll shows that a greater number, mostly younger Americans under 45, believe violence is justified to achieve political ends, nearly 33%.
This is the textbook definition of terrorism. Overall, the number is a solid 24% of the general population.
As Professor Pape notes: “What’s happening is public support for political violence is growing in the mainstream, it’s not a fringe thing, and the more it grows, the more it seems acceptable to volatile people.”
A new poll from Politico and Public First, reported by Politico, shows that a majority of Americans, 55%, expect political violence to increase. While the majority of Americans of all genders, ages, party affiliation, and level of education, showed concern over political violence, Democrats and older voters seemed most worried.
Democrats, overall, since Trump came to office, are now more likely than Republicans to say that violence will increase. The numbers were reversed when Joe Biden was in office.
According to this poll, more than a quarter of Democrats, 28%, mentioned Trump’s rhetoric, MAGA, and conservatives as reasons for the growing harsh partisanship; 16% of Republicans cited the rhetoric of Democrats and liberals.
I believe the now incessant far-left Democrat rhetoric calling all conservatives racists, fascists, Nazis, and Trump Hitler is definitely a bigger factor, and I am surprised Republicans are less aware of that.
While Democrats try to frame several non-political incidents of violence as right-wing violence — the bizarre attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband, the arson attack on Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro’s house, and the horrible murder of a democrat state representative and her husband — the fact is, these examples were either not politically motivated, or the motives were confused.
The new reality is that the majority of political violence is now being committed by the left. A recent study by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) shows that the number of left-wing terrorist incidents in the U.S. has risen in the last decade, particularly since 2016.
Today, left-wing terrorist attacks and plots represented a record share of domestic incidents in the first half of 2025. CSIS projects that 2025 could be the first year in over three decades where left-wing attacks exceed those from the far-right.
The bottom line is that the stark divide in America will only deepen, and sadly, things are only going to get worse.

Sen. Ruben Gallego Moves to Challenge Trump Green Card Policy
Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.
According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.
The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.
